Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) in Dorchester!

Want to pick up fresh, organic food during the warm months? CSA Shares are going fast! Luckily, there are at least three places in Dorchester where you can get your very own CSA - and more opportunities may be on their way! Continue on to learn about CSA sites in the Ashmont, Codman Square and Franklin Field area, as well as one at Carney Hospital.

Ashmont: The Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers' Market, run by Langwater Farm of Easton, will have CSA shares available. This CSA will provide certified organic produce, and it has a feature that's not often found in CSAs: Choice! Although there is a list of what fruits, veggies, etc. are available each week, shareholders get to choose their own items to match the list. For example, one list item might be two pounds of tomatoes; the shareholder chooses their own tomatoes from the table at the market, rather than taking two pounds that were bagged at the farm. For more information, visit http://langwaterfarm.com/find-our-produce/join-our-csa/, email langwaterfarm@gmail.com, or view the attached flyer.

Carney Hospital (2100 Dorchester Avenue): Interested in participating in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) pickup site at Carney? Carney Hospital is partnering with Silverbrook Farm in Dartmouth to provide access to locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to the employees and community members. Half Share costs $335 (~2 people) and a Full Share is $570 (~4 people). Pickup Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m, outside at back of Hospital near Seton Medical Office Building entrance from June 21st through October 25th. Bring your own bag each week for the CSA pickup. Designate a person to pick up in your place in case you are not on campus on Tuesdays at 11:00. See here for more information. Contact Nancy Lafoe, Director of Community Partnerships and Mission, at (617)506-2197.

Codman Square: The Farmers Market season begins June 23rd. In order to get ready for this year’s season, Silverbrook Farms has already begun to sell CSA’s. To reserve your share today, send a check to Silverbrook Farm, 592 Chase Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747 or apply and pay for your share online here. Full payment is due by June 11th.
