The Food Pantry is one of the most established ministries at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Concerned by issues of hunger and poverty in the Uphams Corner neighborhood of Dorchester, St. Mary’s Food Pantry was established in 1991 to help address the needs of those struggling to put food on their tables.

Volunteers with computer skills are needed to update and preform maintenance on the database once or twice a week. Please contact the food pantry coordinator via email if interested. Or visit here >> Read More

Volunteers need for Produce to Pantries program

Picture:

It's that time of year again! Boston Natural Areas Network and the Boston Gardeners Council are moving forward on planning this year's Produce to Pantries program. Last year, gardeners grew over 7,000 pounds of fresh produce for pantries in Mattapan and Dorchester. They are hoping to exceed that number this year and need your help!

They are looking for gardens or individual gardeners who can dedicate growing produce to be collected for Produce to Pantries weekly. Additionally, they are hoping to find volunteers who will dedicate time each week in helping collect produce from gardens, transporting food from garden to pantry, and distributing produce at the pantries. The food pantry locations, dates, and times are still TBA (but coming soon!).

If you have any questions or would like to sign up to help, please contact dana@bostonnatural.org or call 617-542-7696.

Suicide Helpline Befriender

Each day in the greater Boston and Metrowest areas, more than 350 people, finding themselves struggling with loneliness, depression, or suicidal feelings, turn to Samaritans in search of the respectful, non-judgemental support that has been the cornerstone of our services since 1974. Some have been dealt life circumstances they feel unable to face alone. Others may be considering suicide and seek support to get through a frightening and painful time. Whatever the challenge or struggle, those who are suicidal or despairing can find something at Samaritans that we all need from time to time: a caring, empathetic ear, eager to listen, and if only for a short time, share a load that has become too heavy. >> Read More
