LDB Peace Institute

The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute is a center for healing, teaching, and learning for families who have been impacted by murder, trauma, grief, and loss. If you are looking to gain hands-on experience by collaborating with a dynamic and diverse team of experts in homicide response, head over to their Volunteer Open House and Orientation this week. The Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon | July 21 & 22

Boston Medical Center is gearing up for the annual Boston Triathlon on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22 which will be held at DCR’s Carson Beach. They are looking for volenteers if you are intersted click here. Lots of positions avaliable!

Free Fun Friday at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute | July 13, 2018

On Friday, July 13, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute participates in offering a “Free Fun Friday” through support from the Highland Street Foundation. The Institute is open for free all day and many volunteers will be needed for the event. If interested, please email your resume to eileen.donovan@emkinstitute.org

Volunteers Needed for Shawmut Walkway Cleanup | Nov. 10th

RESCHEDULED- Volunteers Needed:  Shawmut Walkway Gardens Cleanup, November 10.

Please join neighbors and volunteers from Boston Cares for the final 2018 cleanup of the garden beds along the walkways to the Shawmut T station! We'll be pulling weeds, cutting certain plants back for winter, and planting some new bulbs for early spring flowers. Volunteers have made a big difference to make these gardens enjoyable for everyone who walks to the Shawmut T station this year, and it's time to get the gardens ready for winter!  Meet at the intersection of Mather Street and the Shawmut MBTA walkway.

Love Your Block: The Cornerstone Lot | May 26, 2018

Love Your Block Grant project at the Cornerstone needs your help! Mt. Bowdoin Betterment Association are revitalizing planters by adding trellis and new flowers and decorative plants, and cleaning the lot. Everyone is welcome to help beautify Four Corners! Materials will be provided.

Dorchester Bay EDC- Social Media Marketing| April 9, 2018

Picture: 

Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation is looking for volunteers who are familiar with digital marketing, specifically social media marketing. Some of the  required duties are drafting weekly social posts, engage users online, host twitter chats, live tweet events, etc. Volunteers can either can work at the Dorchester Bay Office or remotely.

Hours: 10-15hrs per week is ideal but not required

Boston Hassle | Spring-Summer 2018

Spring Cleanup at Sharon's Park & Polish Triangle| May 19, 2018

Join the John W. McCormack Civic Association on May 19th from 10AM-2PM for a neighborhood park beautification project! Many helping hands are needed for mulching, raking, light pruning, and trash pick up.

Locations:

1) Sharon's Park at Mt. Vernon St. / Buttonwood St.

2) Polish Triangle at Dorchester Ave. & Howell St.

Oldways- Cooking Instructor | April 4, 2018

Oldways is looking for volunteers to teach their six-week A Taste of African Heritage cooking and nutrition curriculum to community members in the Boston metropolitan area. Teaching an entire class series requires about 15-16 hours of time over the course of the series (roughly six, 2-hour class sessions, plus clean up, set up, and possibly some grocery shopping). Oldways will provide training and teacher certification, so prior teaching experience is not required. However, being comfortable in the kitchen and passionate for nutrition, healthy eating, plant-based foods, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning about African diaspora foods are important!

CSHC- Enrollment | April 3, 2018

Codman Square Health Center is currently looking for multiple volunteers to assist our Enrollment Department! 

Location: 637 Washington Street, Dorchester MA 02124

Start date: ASAP

Length of commitment: a few months (preferably 4 months)

Hours: 20hrs per week is ideal 

Responsibilities: patient tracking, make outreach calls to patients, answer questions regarding the enrollment process, assist with Codman's BACO enrollment period

Qualifications: 18 or older, computer skills, some experience in marketing/outreach, profient in Excel

ADSL- Sport Coaches Needed | Spring- Summer 2018

All Dorchester Sports & Leadership (ADSL) is currently looking for people to volunteer as sporting coaches for t-ball and baseball for young children in elementary and middle school. Coaches will receive compensation for commitment.

Sports:

  • T-ball (May- June)
  • Baseball (June- August)

Number of Coaches/Volunteer needed: 8

Responsibilities: Managing teams and conducting clinics

Requirement: 18 or older, prior coaching experience or experience playing the sport

BGMS- Closing the Digital Divide Project | Mar. 28, 2018

Bowdoin Geneva Main Streets (BGMS) is trying to be pro-active in keeping the wealth w/ POC small business owners in this city. So we aim to 1) retain our residents as they're the market base for our business owners and 2) expand our business owners market base to include the larger community so they can maintain sustainability.

BGMS have set aside $10,000 to be used on this project and need volunteers to implement the following:

CANCELLED: Love Your Block: Grove Hall

Are you interested in a joining a neighborhood cleanup or beautification project?

Greater Grove Hall Main Streets will be hosting a full day beautification project on May 19th. Currently, of the 91 tree pits in the Grove Hall business district, only 11 have mulch. Therefore, the goal of this event is to weed and mulch as many as possible. Tools and equipment will be provided.

This event is currently cancelled due to the lack of mulch. 

ADSL- Teachers for Enrichment Program | Feb. 12

All Dorchester Sports & Leadership is currently in search for volutneers to help with their Enrichment Program.

If you have a skill (science, yoga, health, make origami, etc) and you can facilitate an one hour long acitivty plan to kids, then you should sign up to join ADSL's Enrichment Program!

Location: 1565 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA 02122

Lengh of Commitment: at least 2 months

Hours: 1 hour per week, 5-6pm

Qualifications: 

Have a skill that you want to share with kids ranging from ages 5- 13

BGMS- Social Media Assistant | Feb. 9, 2018

Location: the Bowdoin Geneva Neighborhood

Hours: Few hours per week is ideal 

Description: A social media assistant will help business owners connect to the digital economy by creating email accounts, linking them to banking accounts, creating PayPal accounts and social media accounts, then link all accounts to their cell phones and show them how it manage all the accounts. 

Qualifications:

-Technology Skills (familiarity with Square Reader, or Paypal is a plus)

-Knowledge of various social media platforms

CSHC Department of Pediatrics | Jan. 31, 2018

Volunteers are needed at Codman Square Health Center's busy pediatrics department. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to read to children as they wait for their visits. The purpose is to provide distraction and some modeling for parents around the fun and richness of reading!

 

Requirements:

Ability to read comfortably at the 5th grade reading level

Become an Academic Mentor! |Jan. 31, 2018

Boston Partners in Education is seeking volunteer academic mentors to support Boston’s public schools students by providing them with focused, individualized, in-school mentoring.

What do Academic Mentors do?

Academic mentors work one-on-one or with a small group of 2-4 students for an hour a week during the school day. As an academic mentor, you will support a student’s academic and personal growth, and in many cases become an adult role model.
