Are you looking for ways to get involved in the community? Do you have some spare time or skills that you would like to use to make Dorchester a better place to live? Does your organization need volunteers to help you achieve your mission? The Volunteer page at MyDorchester is where you can find and promote individual and group volunteer opportunities in the Dorchester area. Everyday, we post opportunities with local clinical and community services organizations. We also send out a biweekly volunteer blast that you can sign up for below. Current Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering for Oscars on the Avenue

Picture:

Sunday, March 2, at 7pm marks the return of Oscars on the Avenue - SMAMS’ biggest fundraiser of the year. This community celebration of the Academy Awards will feature delicious Tavolo hors d’oeuvres, our own “Joan Rivers” and awards, a fantastic auction, and more!

Volunteers are need leading up to the day of the event, assist with preparation, and help during the event.

For more information about the need and responsibilities please contact:

Codman Square Tax Clinics

Picture:

The Codman Square Tax site is open Mondays and Wednesdays 4-9 pm and Saturdays 9 am - 2 pm. Volunteers are needed at least 5 hours per week (one session) for the duration of the tax season (Jan. 27 - April 15). There is flexibility with this need however.

Volunteers would need to sign up, attend a training and become certified in order to prepare taxes. All of that information can be found here: http://www.bostoncares.org/eitc.

There is also a need for "greeters" who provide intake services and manage individuals as they wait at the tax site. They do not need to be trained or certified to prepare taxes. The greeter is one of the most important people at the site - they keep the (sometimes upwards of 100) people informed and in-line, while also providing positive customer service.

Boston International high School Writing Center

WriteBoston currently needs writing tutors to volunteer for 2-4 hours per week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Boston International High School. Boston International serves students with limited English skills who are recent immigrants from all over the world. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers who are passionate about writing to help students in the Dorchester community who are English language learners.
