Community Health Dialogue | June 20

The Dorchester House Multi-Service Center (1353 Dorchester Avenue) will host a community dialogue on June 20th from 5:30 - 8:00PM to discuss health issues affecting our neighborhood. Last year's dialogue focused on Asthma and Obesity, and this year's discussion will begin with a report back on those issues and continue on to future steps. There will be a light dinner served and interpretations available for those that speak Vietnamese and Spanish.

Skin Cancer Screenings | July 21

Join the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center for a first time ever skin cancer screening.
Did you know that the lifetime risk of getting melanoma is about 1 in 50 for whites, 1 in 200 for Hispanics, and 1 in 1,000 for blacks? Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. Melanoma accounts for less than 5% of skin cancer cases. But it causes most skin cancer deaths. This event is free!

"The Weight of a Nation" Screening & Discussion | June 28

The Grove Hall Branch of the Boston Public Library will be holding a screening of the four-part HBO documentary series "The Weight of the Nation" during the month of June. Each screening will be accompanied by a talk and discussion. Further information below:

DSAC Presents "Learning to Cope" | June 19

Tuesday, June 19th from 6-8pm at the Leahy~Holloran Community Center, 
Dorchester Substance Abuse Coalition (DSAC) 
will host “Learning to Cope”, a forum for parents and teens with several guest speakers, including local men and women in recovery and Ms. Joanne Peterson from www.learntocope.org.

The Friends of the Adams Street Library (690 Adams Street, Dorchester) will host their annual book sale on Saturday, June 9 from 9am – 1PM.

Soulful Sounds Second Saturday | June 9

Soulful Sounds 2nd Saturdays is a new monthly event at Gallery G of the Black Indian Inn! starts June 9th from 8pm to 12am | 38 Bicknell St. Dorchester, MA 02121 and each 2nd Saturday after that. Hosted by Radiant Jasmin, Terry Orlando Jones and Simone Iman. Gabrilla Ballard is the featured performer for the Joyful June Jump Off!

While discovering the lives of women-sex symbols in popular rap videos, we see the stress that  'The Ripper' goes through after realizing his booty shaking models are never going to show up to the video shoot. The Ripper is forced to find creative ways to shoot his music video without them. Show Up plays with this concept through abstract monologues and multimedia while revealing something intimate about these women.
