Earth Day Tree Planting | April 22

Earth Day Tree Planting on the Neponset River Greenway

Monday, April 22, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Neponset Greenway at Milton MBTA Trolley Station, Adams Street, Dorchester

Help Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) celebrate Earth Day by planting a grove of trees on Neponset Greenway in Dorchester. This event will begin with a tree planting demonstration led by BNAN staff, after which volunteers will break into small groups to plant the remaining trees. Gloves, tools, snacks and water provided. Bring friends and family!

Neponset Park, Hilltop Street @ Granite Ave, Dorchester

Service projects to improve MA Department of Conservation and Recreation Parks across the Commonwealth will be happening on Park Serve Day. Join Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) to plant seven new trees at beautiful Neponset Park in Dorchester on the Neponset River. Volunteers will also care for 25 trees planted in the fall of 2012, applying additional mulch, checking stakes and ties, fertilizing and installing gator bags. Celebrate a great year for FPC at their annual meeting featuring Award Winning Boston Globe Journalist, Derrick Z. Jackson. Come early and mingle with fellow members and park lovers. Hear about upcoming events and projects. Light refreshments will be available.  Learn more about Derrick Z. Jackson on his staff webpage. Mr. Jackson previously wrote a feature on the trees in Franklin Park titled  ”The Return of the Trees”. He also writes articles that focus on youth, graduation rates for college athletes, the outdoors, and the environment.

New Leaders Institute: Info Session | March 26

 

HBGC's New Leaders Institute (NLI) is a leadership development program for LGBTQ individuals of color under 25.  The program is designed to equip the next generation of LGBTQ activists of color with the skills and resources to succeed.  Over 6 months, participants undergo a series of skill building, leadership, and community organizing trainings that culminate in community-wide projects and campaigns.

Wheelock College warmly welcomes the public to the second of the Winter Policy Talks series, "Youth Violence and Its Impact on the Community." Youth violence is a public health crisis in the United States. Based on the most recent statistics, approximately 20 percent of high school students report being bullied at school, and over 30 percent report being in a physical fight. Homicide is the second leading cause of death of young people, with an average of 16 youth murdered every day.

Please join for a  powerful presentation by Ann Tobey, Associate Professor, Juvenile Justice and Youth Advocacy at Wheelock College; Clementina Chery, Founder and Executive Director at The Louis D.
