Survivors Support Group | Jan 30 - Feb. 27

Have you lost a relative, friend, colleague, significant other or neighbor to homicide? Do you need a safe space to begin the healing process? Can you make a 5-week commitment to dedicate 1.5 hour to taking care of you?  If you answered “Yes” to the first question and also said “Yes” to at least one of the other questions, then join the Survivors Support Group. This group is a survivor-based five-week group session for adult (18 and up) survivors of homicide victims who need help with processing through the overwhelming feelings and issues related to their loss, seeking help with staying in control of their lives, and being a support for others who relate to your loss.  >> Read More

Sibling Survivors Social Network | Feb. 16

Are you an adult sibling survivor of a homicide victim who is interested in meeting others who have lost a loved one? Are you looking to dedicate some time for yourself to have fun, get rejuvenated, feel empowered and make new friends? Then, join in the next Sibling Survivors Social Network gathering Saturday, February 16, from 12 to 1:30 pm at the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, 1452 Dorchester Ave., 3rd Flr.

These gatherings are held on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The Peace Institute is located near the Fields Corner T-stop. There is a free municipal parking lot at 195 Adams Street. To RSVP or for more information, contact Marisa Luse at 617-461-3953/617-825-1917.

Community Peace Circle | Mar. 12

 

The Community Circle is a time and place where people who are affected by the violence in our community can come together and speak honestly about what's going on for them. The Community Peace Circle will be held the second Tuesday of every month and are open to all members of the community. The circle will be held at Bowdoin St. Health Center, 230 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester, MA 02122.

Weight Watchers Class | Jan. 31

 

In collaboration with the Boston Public Health Commission and Weight Watchers, Dorchester House is fortunate to be one of the three community health centers in Boston offering both Weight Watchers meetings and subsidized memberships for eligible people.  The Dorchester House  Weight Watchers meetings begin this Thursday,  January 31, in the Multipurpose room.   The Weigh-In begins @ 5:30..

There will be VIP passes ($10 discount) available for staff who attend the meeting.  Just  show your DH badge at the meeting and ask for the “VIP pass”.

Globe Community Discussion | Jan 30

On Wednesday January 30th, Globe journalists and community members from the Bowdoin-Geneva neighborhood in Dorchester will be discussing the groundbreaking “68 Blocks” series produced by a number of Globe reporters, some of whom were living in the neighborhood for the summer months. The talk will explore the roots of the violence that has plagued the area for years while also emphasizing the many positives that come out of this community.
