Majors Challenge - the RBS Jack Nicklaus Majors Challenge is a
competition to find the golfer who can get closest tot he pin on a
simulates version on the 227 yard Par 3 16th hole at Torrey Pines South
Course. The winner of the competition staged over 5 days wins an all
espenses paid trip for two to Jack Nicklaus' home course in Florida and
a set of personally customized Nicklaus golf clubs.
Free Golf Lessons-
inflatable RBS practice nets will enable attendees to try the latest
Nicklaus golf equipment during a free 10 minute golf lesson with a PGA
Professional. Leaderboard- a full size scoreboard will relay the latest scores from the U.S. Open. Big Screen - a giant screen showing live coverage of the U.S. Open. Putting Challenge- Specially constructed greens that will test fans short game skills. This is the celebreation to remember the emancipation proclamation issued on January 1, 1863. Slavery was finally abolished in the United States. Many African Americans in all parts of the United States will celebrate the liberation of their ancesters, called, "Juneteenty". We are organizing this day in a local park with the City
of Boston, as a part of our local work on youth and safety. We will
have food, games, art activities, an ice cream truck, pony rides, and
more. I have attached the flyer, if you wouldn't mind letting your
network of people know about this community day. We also have space for
community information tables, if you know of anyone interested in
publicizing their programs, especially for children and youth.

The Franklin Park Coalition (FPC) has partnered with the
National Center for Afro-American Artists (NCAAA) and the Boston Parks
and Recreation Department's ParkARTS Program to present a performing
arts series named for the founder and director of the Elma Lewis School
of Fine Arts. Lewis, a beloved Boston icon, established Playhouse in
the Park in 1966, and presented artists like Duke Ellington, Olatunji,
Billy Taylor, and the Boston Ballet. In its original inception, it ran
through 1978.
Four years ago, the FPC, NCAAA, and ParkARTS began their
effort to re-establish the Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park as an
exciting multicultural summer performance venue.

The Washington Street/Talbot Avenue Safe Neighborhood Initiative holds a Community-Wide Meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at the Perkins Community Center, 155 Talbot Ave., Dorchester, MA. This initiative is led by a steering committee composed of residents, businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies in the area bordered by Washington St. (eastern border), Blue Hill Ave. (western border), Armandine St. (southern border) and Columbia Rd. (northern border). Monthly meetings are held to coordinate efforts and develop strategies for reducing violent crime and improving quality of life in this area. Mini-grants are also awarded every year to organizations that are doing coordinated community policing, intervention, prevention and revitalization work within the designated area. spearheaded by BPD C-11 in curbing violence in the Bowdoin-Geneva area.This initiative has several components of
which some are already in place.Two of
them are community policing and completing and updating a safety audit for all
businesses.
BGMS provide Design Assistance,
Storefront Improvement and Restore funds.Financial and literacy workshops are offered to businesses, which result
in the merchants having secure, stable financial resources.
BGMS has partnered with Vietaid on
the development of the Bloomfield Project located at 4-6 Bloomfield Street on
Geneva Avenue. We are also working with
Dorchester Bay EDC, Bird Street and neighboring associations in the development
of a Bowdoin Street Community Center. BGMS has an ongoing partnership with C-11
in creating a Safety Audit for merchants.
