"green collar" jobs - creating a new economy

For those of you who have not already seen it, MAGJC, along with some of our ally organizations, was featured in a Globe article on Friday July 4th. This is a great boost to our green jobs efforts:  http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/green/articles/2008/07/04/donning_a_green_collar/

The Massachusetts Green Jobs Coalition (MAGJC) is a statewide alliance that advocates for and actively creates a just and inclusive Green Economy that creates pathways out of poverty. We do this by convening, connecting, catalyzing and mobilizing for the creation of green industries, careers and entrepreneurial opportunities that heal the earth and our communities.

Green Jobs Now! events on Sat Sept 27

On September 27, a national mobilization is happening to say, "We're ready for the green economy." We are ready to tackle the climate crisis by building a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

Green Jobs Now! is a National Day of Action that will empower everyday people to stage hundreds of grassroots events throughout the country. We will have a special focus on low-income communities, communities of color and indigenous people. This will send a message to our leaders that, when it comes to creating green jobs for a more sustainable economy, PEOPLE ARE READY!

~ Massachusetts Green Jobs Coalition (MAGJC), in partnership with the Green Jobs Now! initiative, invites you to join us for a National Day of Action on Saturday, September 27, 2008.

Festivities will begin on the steps of Cambridge City Hall at 10:30 am- noon, and on the Boston Common, they will begin at 3-5 pm, followed by a Celebration until 7pm.

At both locations there will be an array of dynamic community leaders, elected officials, guest speakers, fun local music, BioTour's Vegetable Oil Powered Bus, and other entertainment.

A local filmmaker will document the event for the National Website. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of this Historic Event!

The Green Jobs Now! Day of Action is a non-profit, non-partisan initiative of Green For All, 1Sky, the We Campaign and our many important partners, including MAGJC!

We have an entire Green Day planned! The agenda is as follows:
10:30am: The day's events begin on the steps of City Hall in Cambridge with music and empowering speeches by Mayor Denise Simmons, other elected officials, and community leaders.

12noon:  We will depart from Cambridge City Hall on an educational excursion for urban youth via BioTour's Vegetable Oil Powered Bus which will take us to the Boston Common. Along the route we will be stopping to view a multitude of green sites in the Cambridge and Boston areas, including the Boston GreenFest. This will be filmed for the Green Jobs Now! website.

3-5pm: MAGJC will join Service Nation for a Green Jobs Now! Rally, with a Celebration to follow.  Elected Officials and an array of dynamic community leaders and guest speakers will join with local musicians and entertainment to create an exciting event that you won't want to miss. There will also be a Solutions Fair and a voter registration drive. Local Organizations are welcome to have a table and present information.

5-7pm: Time to Celebrate! You have all worked hard for a Just Green Economy; now Join us for Music, Dancing and Friends!

Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of this historic event and to show your support for Green Jobs Now. And please bring your friends!

Organizations are welcome to come join us, and volunteers are needed to help with the day's activities. If your organization is interested in participating, or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer:
