BOSTON PUBLIC
LIBRARY TO HOST

 DIGITAL BOOKMOBILE DOWNLOAD EVENT

 ON CITY
HALL PLAZA

Promotes free audiobook, eBook, music
& video download service

The Boston Public Library will host the Digital Bookmobile,
an immersive download experience inside a 74-foot, high-tech tractor-trailer,
on Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at City Hall
Plaza.

Readers of all ages are invited to engage digital
downloading through interactive demonstrations and experience the BPL’s  audiobook,
eBook, music, and video download service at this free event. Library card
holders can also check out and download digital
titles any time, anywhere by visiting http://overdrive.bpl.org.

          The Digital Bookmobile is housed
inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. This 74-foot community outreach vehicle is
a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities
for decades. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs,
high definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable
media players, all of which help visitors explore The Boston Public Library’s
download service. Interactive learning stations give visitors an opportunity to
search the digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and download
and enjoy eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video from the library.

Patrons can take advantage of the
download service 24/7 when they visit the library’s website. From there, they
can browse the growing collection of best-selling, new release, and classic
titles, and check out a digital title with a valid library card.

Once downloaded, digital titles can be
enjoyed on a computer or transferred to supported mobile devices. Many audio
titles can also be burned to audio CD. At the end of the 21-day lending period,
titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection.
There are never late fees or damaged items.

The Digital Bookmobile is a service of Boston Public
Library and is operated by OverDrive, Inc. To check out and download digital
books and more, visit http://overdrive.bpl.org.

For more than 150 years, the Boston
Public Library has pioneered public library service in America with
revolutionary ideas and famous firsts. Established in 1848, the BPL was the
first publicly supported municipal library in America, the first public library
to lend books, the first to have a branch library and the first to have a
children’s room. Today, the BPL boasts 27 neighborhood branches, free Internet
access, two unique restaurants, an award-winning website www.bpl.org and an on-line store featuring
reproductions of the BPL’s priceless photographs and artwork. Each year, the
BPL hosts nearly 5000 programs, answers more than one million reference
questions and serves millions of people in its National Historic
Landmark McKim
Building in Copley Square. All
of its programs and exhibits are free and open to the public. At the Boston
Public Library, books are just the beginning!
