Internship with the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition (DEHC)
Project Goals:The goals of the Dorchester Air Quality are to assess the air quality along the Dorchester Avenue Corridor in Dorchester, MA., using PTRAK monitors. Typically air quality surveys and studies look at larger particulate matter. Ultrafine particulates--particles from fresh vehicle combustion-- thought to be a major culprit in asthma cases, are frequently ignored. The PTRAK monitors measure these fine particulates.
This exciting project will set the stage for later phases of project work to be done in Dorchester and, is being coordinated with similar studies around the region, as well as with studies being done by Harvard University.
Atypically, results of this study will be available to the public through a variety of sources and will inform the public about pollution levels where they live.
Description of Work and Duties:

•Train in the use of ultrafine particle equipment (PTRAK) the week between May 17th and 24th (this may include up to two training sessions that week)
