Shawmut Garden

The Shawmut Garden is a teaching garden. Teachers and students from area schools, as well as adult learners, are invited visit and learn. Signs at the garden offer information about some of the plants. Spending time observing a garden can be an educational experience by itself: watching pollinators, observing colors and textures, and viewing the seasonal changes which take place.

Shawmut Garden extends from Centre Street to Melville Avenue. It was built with assistance from the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The Garden is the result of a multi-year collaborative effort between designers, artisans, architects, scientists, teachers, elected officials, and community advocates. The Garden is maintained by
the community on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m to 12
noon. Please join us to care for and
learn about the plants.
