A great friend to Haiti has a new home! Join the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH) on Wednesday, September 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., to celebrate the establishment of a Boston-based headquarters. Come mingle with members of the Boston Haitian community and non-Haitians supporting Haitians’ fight for justice at home and in the United States, including activists, lawyers, advocates, healthcare professionals and political leaders. The 2nd Write on the DOT reading features an outstanding lineup of Dorchester writers presented by students in UMass-Boston's Creative Writing MFA Program sharing pieces in poetry and fiction. 3rd Annual Youth Conference, Aug. 29

PeaceCome to 35 Westville Street in Dorchester for the 3rd Annual Youth Peace Conference on August 29th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be workshops, entertainment, food, prizes, free t-shirts, and plenty of other activities. This event is hosted by the Greater Four Corners Action Coalition.

Community Clean-Up, Aug. 13

CleanupFriends of Codman Square Library and other partners have planned a community-wide clean-up for Codman Square Library grounds with volunteers to help. The community clean-up is planned on August 13th at 8:00 3:00 p.m at the codman Square Library. If you have left over mulch, flowers, gloves, and/or items as it relates to the up keep for the Codman Square Library, we will accept them. For more information call 617-436-1591.

Greater Chamberlain Neighbors Annual Yard Sale, Aug. 6

Yard SaleJoin the Greater Chamberlain Neighbors for a GREAT BIG multi-family Yard Sale on Saturday, August 6! Tools, furniture, clothes, fine linen, toys, collectibles, clothing, jewelry, fabric, and maybe even some artwork will be available. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to support the work of the Greater Four Corners Action Coalition. Be a Big Sister in Your Community

For women 20 and older: This one-to-one mentoring program matches girls (ages 7-15) with women who live in or around their community.  Big Sisters spend time with Little Sisters weekly for the first three months and a minimum of twice per month thereafter for at least 12 months.


Matches meet on days and times of their choosing and do activities that they both enjoy, such as playing games, watching movies or riding bikes.  They develop a special friendship based on trust and respect as they learn about and from each other! 


There are currently 119 girls waiting for a Big Sister in the Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods!

Savin Hill 2nd Annual Night Out, Aug. 2

Annual Community Beach Party, Aug. 13

Geiger Gibson Community Health Center and Neponset Health Center present the Annual Community Beach Party at Malibu Beach! This event, part of National Health Center Week, features activities and offering for children, youth and adults, including a drawing competition, games, music, temporary tattoos, balloon animals, refreshments, food samples, a free and healthy lunch and many giveaways.
