Nightingale Community GardenYou are invited to the Nightingale Community Garden Grand Opening on Saturday, August 6, 2011! Join Mayor Thomas M. Menino, gardeners, neighbors, supporters and special guests at 12:30 p.m. to celebrate the inaugural season of bounty at the expanded and renovated Community Garden. Explore 130 individual garden plots full of vegetables, herbs and flowers. Community Open House @ Carney Hospital, Aug. 3

You’ve seen them on TV, now see them first-hand! Carney Hospital will be unveiling their new 10 million dollar operating room suites. The staff at Carney hospital will take guests on the tours of the new operating room on Wednesday, August 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served and activities planned. Community Outreach Fundraiser, Sep. 10

HCCHelping Communities in Crisis, Inc. (HCC), a non-profit, faith-based, and community-based HIV/AIDS organization, will hold a fundraiser on September 10. "Together with Haiti" Community Event, Jul. 29

Still HarborStill Harbor will hold "Together with Haiti: An evening of community inspiration and sharing" on July 29, 2011. The organization, an affiliate of Partners in Health, seeks to cultivate thriving Haitian communities here in Boston and throughout Haiti. The event, a reception to gather, listen, and share stories, will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 666 Dorchester Avenue, South Boston, MA. If you are moved, bring your own words. Come with a story, poem, image, or inspiration about Haiti to share with the community - or simply with open ears and open mind.

Write on the DOT reading series, May 3

Locals, get to know your writers. Writers, get to know your locals. Join your fellow literary aficionados on Tuesday, May 3rd at the first "Write on the DOT" reading of poetry and fiction by UMass Boston Creative Writing MFA students and local Dorchester writers. The reading kicks off at 7 p.m. at The Blarney Stone Bar/Restaurant in Fields Corner (1505 Dorchester Ave., 1 block from the Fields Corner T Stop on the Ashmont Red Line). Come raise a glass and join your neighbors as our readers unfurl beauty and darkness, ideas and inspiration. Tuesday's readers are: Rad Thie, Kurt Klopmeier, Andra Hibbert, Betsy Gomez, Zachary Bos, and Mark Rotondi. Community Health Meeting, May 3

Please join your colleagues from Public Schools, Early Intervention and Early Education and Care programs for a Communities of Practice: “Understanding Services & Benefits for Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs” meeting. This presentation is an opportunity to learn from the Department of Public Health and Regional Consultation Program Coordinators about State and Local Resources & Benefits available to support children and youth with special health care needs.
