Veterans Leadership Dinner | August 16

Volunteers of America Massachusetts is hosting their Annual Veterans Leadership Dinner. The dinner will take place on August 16th from 6pm until 10pm at the IBEW Local 103 at 256 Freeport St. in Dorchester, MA. Dinner and entertainment will be provided for guests, along with sentiments from our special guest speakers. The Veterans Leadership Dinner will be a time to honor veteran heroes and veteran community leaders, and most importantly all proceeds from the dinner will support Volunteers of America’s veterans programs, helping homeless veterans and their families. 4th Annual Taste of Dorchester Event April 26

Join the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) to try amazing food from all over Dorchester at the 4th Annual Taste of Dorchester Event!  It will be held from 6-8PM at the IBEW Local 103 located at 256 Freeport Street, with live music from Sleeping Bee.  

Tickets are $35 beforehand, $40 at the door, $20 for seniors and children 6-12, and children under 5 get in for free.  To purchase tickets, please go to tasteofdorchester.org or call 617.822.9100.  

The event is a yearly event to raise money for MAHA's programs which help to increase sustainable homeownership in Dorchester and across Massachusetts. The vibrant local restaurant community has helped to make this event a Dorchester tradition! Try Jamaican, Vietnamese, Cape Verdean, Irish, Indian, Soul Food and American cuisine, a variety of delicious culinary dishes from restaurants across Dorchester. Local ice cream and fair trade coffee will also be served! In 2011, over 400 guests helped to raise $44,000 to support MAHA's efforts! Chili Cookoff, March 25

The 6th Annual Dorchester Chili Cook-Off is happening Sunday, March 25, 3 to 6 p.m., at the IBEW Local 103 Hall, 256 Freeport Street. Civic associations, local merchants, politicians, and other community groups around Dorchester are invited to submit their chili and compete for "Best Chili" Awards. Tickets are $20 per adult and $30 for a family (up to 4 people) at the door. Tickets purchased in advance receive a $5 discount. All proceeds will benefit this year's Dorchester Day Parade! Annual Auction to Benefit Ashmont Nursery School, Mar. 10

Support Ashmont Nursery School and enjoy a night of food, fun and entertainment in downtown Boston! On March 10, Ashmont Nursery School will be holding their Annual Auction at Citizen Schools, located at 308 Congress Street, 5th floor. The auction will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Bid in silent and live auctions on wonderful items donated by local businesses and individuals. From Sea to Shining Sea Dinner / Auction March 2

Team La Push is a group of 20 students and three teachers from Boston International Newcomers Academy in Boston, Massachusetts. The team will be participating in a service-learning trip to live and work with the Quileute Nation on their reservation in La Push, Washington in April. These students are all immigrants and English Language Learners, coming from eight different countries - some have lived in Boston for less than one year. While learning about Native American life and culture, the students are developing leadership and entrepreneurial skills through teamwork and fundraising. In addition, they will gain an appreciation of their impact on the lives of others through their service projects with the Quileute community. >> Read More
