On Saturday June 23, Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition is hosting a Food & Fitness Tour. Meet in the parking lot of the church of the Holy Spirit, located at 525 River Street near Mattapan Square, at 4:15. Join the Food & Fitness Coalition and experience community efforts to improve the food and fitness environment in Mattapan. Walk the future Neponset Greenway, and view the proposed Neponset Greenway with Guides from the Neponset Greenway Council. Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition | May 8 2012

The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition held its monthly meeting on May 8 at the Mildred Avenue Community Center. The meeting began with a welcome and introductions. Everyone shared their name and favorite place in Mattapan.Theresa Jordan and Sonia Carter discussed plans for Mattapan Moving for Life. A description of the Fairmount Greenway Project and update on the Neponset Greenway from Eva Joseph and Vivien Morris. There was also discussion of activities and outlets for youth in Mattapan, with updates for Vigorous Youth and The Mattapan Patriots Flag Football team. The Healthy on the Block Corner Store Initiative, Farmers Market, and Mobile Market Project were discussed. >> Read More

Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition / Healthy on the Block - Mattapan, Mattahunt Community Center, Wheelock College, and the Strategic Alliance for Health present the FINAL Family Fun Friday! On Jan 20, 4:30 to 6 PM, there will be healthy tasting demonstrations by Chef Rhonda from "Seasoned with Soul," along with fitness by Irina Martinez of "Xclusive Double Dutch." Health Care Revival, Sep. 10

Come to the Mattapan Community Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on September 10 for "Health Care Revival," a free community event with health information, complimentary food tastings and more! Neponset Greenway Walk, Jul. 21

Mattapan Food and Fitness CoalitionAdvocates of the Neponset Greenway, including the Boston Natural Areas Network and the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, are planning a five-mile walk on July 21. Proceeding from Mattapan Square along River Street and the Greenway Trail, the group walk is part of advocates' educational efforts about the Greenway project. The walk is scheduled to start on Thurs., July 21, at 6 p.m. at Mattapan Square MBTA station.

Mattapan Bike-A-Thon, Aug. 13

BikeThe Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition/Vigorous Youth are planning an exciting opportunity for youth and adults alike to get lots of physical activity! Don't miss this event to view our wonderful community in a bike ride through Mattapan followed by a special biking event for children! The event begins at 9 a.m. at Walker Playground (next to Mildred Avenue Community Center) with basic safety instruction followed by a bike ride through Mattapan. Participants in the community bike ride must be 14 years or older and pre-registration is required.  Loaner bikes will be available and every participant gets a free bike helmet! At 11:30 a.m. there will be biking activities within the park for children also!

The Good Food Market at Gallivan, Jul. 13

FoodA Good Food Market is opening at the Gallivan Housing Development in Mattapan on July 13. Don't miss the chance to get great food at a great price! Farmers MarketDo you love fresh fruits and vegetables? The 5th season of the Mattapan Farmers Market will be on July 9th. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and other delicious foods from Bradlee Estate in Canton and Clark Cooper Garden will be sold at the market. There will be lots of fun activities including gardening classes, music, fitness workshops, and more! (EBT and SNAP users get 50% off all purchases up to $20.) Mattapan Greenway Connections Walk, Jul. 21

WalkThe Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition is hosting a walk for anyone to join. The walk will be a 5K walk from Mattapan Square along River Street and the Greenway trail to Dorchester. Bring your friends and family and join in on the fun! Don't miss this exciting walk!
