Mattapan Bike-A-Thon, Aug. 13

BikeThe Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition/Vigorous Youth are planning an exciting opportunity for youth and adults alike to get lots of physical activity! Don't miss this event to view our wonderful community in a bike ride through Mattapan followed by a special biking event for children! The event begins at 9 a.m. at Walker Playground (next to Mildred Avenue Community Center) with basic safety instruction followed by a bike ride through Mattapan. Participants in the community bike ride must be 14 years or older and pre-registration is required.  Loaner bikes will be available and every participant gets a free bike helmet! At 11:30 a.m. there will be biking activities within the park for children also!

The Good Food Market at Gallivan, Jul. 13

FoodA Good Food Market is opening at the Gallivan Housing Development in Mattapan on July 13. Don't miss the chance to get great food at a great price! In a partnership with the Gallivan Task Force and Brookwood Community Farm, the market will be open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., each Wednesday from July 13 to October 26. The location is 115 Standard Street, Mattapan.  Shoppers will be able to purchase a full grocery bag of produce for just $5!  EBT/SNAP can be used for purchases and get 50% off.

Mattapan Farmers' Market, Jul. 9

Farmers MarketDo you love fresh fruits and vegetables? The 5th season of the Mattapan Farmers Market will be on July 9th. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and other delicious foods from Bradlee Estate in Canton and Clark Cooper Garden will be sold at the market. There will be lots of fun activities including gardening classes, music, fitness workshops, and more! (EBT and SNAP users get 50% off all purchases up to $20.) Mattapan Greenway Connections Walk, Jul. 21

WalkThe Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition is hosting a walk for anyone to join. The walk will be a 5K walk from Mattapan Square along River Street and the Greenway trail to Dorchester. Bring your friends and family and join in on the fun! Don't miss this exciting walk! "Moving For Life: Fitness for the Whole Family," Jun. 11

Dance, stretch, take yoga classes, play sports, get health resources and run around with your friends and family! "Moving For Life: Fitness for the Whole Family" will take place on Saturday, June 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Walker Playground, Norfolk St., Mattapan (adjacent to the Mildred Ave. Community Center in Mattapan). This event, hosted by the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, intends to promote the utilization of community resources for physical fitness.

Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the Mildred Avenue Community Center, 5 Mildred Ave. in Mattapan. All meetings are open to the public.

Key Programs Offered: 

The Mattapan Farmers Market: The MFFC sponsors a weekly farmers market in Mattapan Square on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July through October. This year, the market will be held in the parking lot of the Church of the Holy Spirit, 525 River St. form July 10th through October 2. At the market you can find a wide variety of fresh, affordable, organic fruits and vegetables from local farms. Farmers at the market accept EBT/SNAP (Food Stamps), WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons.

Mattapan Moving for Life: To promote the utilization of community resources for physical fitness, the Coalition is establishing an annual Mattapan Moving for Life fitness event.

Healthy on the Block: Join MFFC to help corner stores in Mattapan offer healthier options, including better quality fruits and vegetables at a reasonable price. The Strategic Alliance for Health Corner Store Initiative is working with community members and organizations to increase community access to healthy affordable food through community corner stores. Help MFFC to plan for this project and identify corner stores to participate in this community- supported effort.
