American Voice in Poetry and Song I October 30, 2016

Concert of songs to texts of American poets. Poet Regie Gibson will give dramatic readings of poems prior to their being sung. Gibson will offer some of his original work, as well.

Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers Market | June 26

The Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers’ Market opens on Friday, June 26, on Ashmont Station Plaza. Market hours are every Friday, from 3 to 7 p.m., through October 16.  Spring Brook Farm from Littleton, Lanni Orchards from Lunenburg, Red’s Best Seafood, Swissbakers, and Dorchester’s own Cedar Grove Gardens offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, seafood, baked goods, and fresh flowers, plants, and gifts. Credit/debit cards and SNAP/EBT accepted. Boston Bounty Bucks will match up to $10 of SNAP/EBT purchases each week. “Like” Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers’ Market on Facebook to keep current on vendors and special activities and events.

Peace Walk and Rally | June 16

"Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with us." The community will come together to walk and rally for peace on our streets. The walk route begins at Ashmont Station onto corners of Fuller and Washington where the 16-year old boy was killed last week. We will continue to walk up Fuller to Morton Street and onto West Seldon.

A candle-light vigil is also to take place for the 7-year old girl killed on her bike on West Seldon Street. The walk will proceed through Norfolk Street to New England and Talbot Avenue. 

A 3rd candlelight vigil will take place for the 18-year old young man hit and killed on his bike.

All are encouraged to attend.

Dorchester Walk | May 20

Walk Boston, CSNDC, and Codman Academy logos

We hope you'll join WalkBoston and many Dorchester co-hosts for a point to point walk after work in Dorchester on May 20th! The walk will start by the Ashmont MBTA Station and finish at the Great Hall of the Codman Square Health Center in Codman Square. Groups will head out onto the route as they are filled, with the last group departing around 6pm (The 1.5mile route will take about an hour including the 5 speaker location stops).

Along the way, you'll have a chance to hear representatives from groups like St Mark’s Area Main Streets, the Fairmount Greenway Task Force, Codman Square NDC, Southwest Boston CDC, Codman Academy, The Boston Project Ministries, Sportsmen's (and more) talk about the impact they are making in the community, and opportunities they see for more improvements!

Soul Bike Ride | May 9

Let's take it back to the days when we rode bikes with our friends for fun. Let's take it back to the days of Motown and funk music. Better yet, let's do both.

Join us on May 9th, 2015 at 10:30am for the Soul Bike Ride starting at Ashmont T station. This will be a 5 mile leisure ride down Dorchester Ave and the Neponset Trail with plenty opportunities to make new friends, enjoy the music, and take in views of the Neponset River. Snacks and good company will be provided!

If you need a bike to participate, discounted bike rentals with helmets are being provided by Urban Adventours for this event. When registering indicate you need a bike and additional information will be provided.

Join Dot  Bike for a morning ride downtown! Free registration is encouraged, but not required. We will meet in front of Ashmont Cycles at 6:45am for 7am departure or meet us along Dot Ave!

Join the Dorchester Bike Festival on Saturday April 27, 2014 from 9am to noon.
Location: Pedal & Park Bike Parking Facility on Dorchester Avenue by the Ashmont T Station

Breakfast will be provided!

Timeline:

9am-11am - enjoy some free breakfast and get to know the Ashmont Pedal & Park facility, which enables commuters to park their bikes before catching buses and trains at the Ashmont T Station. There will be free bike tune-ups and family friendly activities to raise awareness about safe bicycling practices. You can also enter to win prizes.

Farmers' Market Demo Day | October 4

Join the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), Carney Hospital, and SMAMS at the Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers' Market at: Oct. 4, at 2:30pm for an event that will be both delicious and economical! 
 
There will be demonstrations on how food can be purchased with SNAP and Boston Bounty Bucks at the farmers' markets, and how it can be used to prepare affordable, tasty, and healthy meals.Cedar Grove Gardens will be doing container gardening demonstrations, Red's Best Seafood will demonstrate how to fillet a whole fish, and Chris Douglass's team will teach us how to use the bounty of produce from the farmers' market (and give out some free food samples)! John Polanowicz, Secretary of Health & Human Services, Stacey Monahan, Commissioner of DTA, and other officials will join residents and local businesses (and you!) at this event.
