3rd Annual Irish Hearts for Haiti Benefit Dance | April 22

Youth and Family Enrichment Services (YOFES) present YoFestival 2012: An Annual Talent Contest and a Celebration of the Haitian Flag/Best of Ourselves Youth Awards on May 26th, starting at 5PM. Mayor Thomas M. Menino will be hosting a special event on March 24, 2012 at 4:30 p.m., “Ayiti Chérie - from Boston to Haiti: The work continues...”. This event will provide an opportunity to recognize the great work that was done to support Haiti and Boston's Haitian residents following the tragic earthquake of 2010, as well as the work that continues in the City of Boston! Trauma and Mental Illness in the Haitian Community, May 5

The Haitian Mental Health Network and the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) will be hosting an event, "Trauma and Mental Illness in the Haitian Community: Cultural Considerations for Developing a Broad Clinical and Research Agenda." The day long event will take place Saturday, May 5, 2012, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at the MSPP in West Roxbury, MA. The event will feature Keynote speakers Dr. Guerda Nicolas, Associate Professor, University of Miami, and Dr. Ronald Jean-Jacques, President, Haitian Psychological Association. Panel and workshop presentations will include: The impact of historical traumas on the adaptation of Haitian immigrants in the US; the role of cultural belief systems in understanding health-seeking behaviors of Haitian individuals; culturally-bound syndromes and somatic manifestations of mental illness in the Haitian community; the use of art therapy with Haitian children earthquake survivors; and clinical interventions to address Haitian clients' mental health needs.

There will also be a pre-conference Art Exhibition, entitled "When Our Brushes Shook":  The Healing Power of Art.

To commemorate the two year anniversary of Haiti's devastating earthquake, Governor Deval Patrick will present a special proclamation in solidarity with the Haitian community. The event will take place on Monday, January 30, 2012 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the Grand Staircase in the State House and will feature artistic performances and reflections from elected officials and community leaders.

Sk8 For Haiti Jan. 13 & 14

This MLK weekend, join Groovement for the first annual Sk8 for Haiti event, taking place Friday, January 13, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, January 14th, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Matenwa Community Learning Center located in Lagonav, Haiti. "Sk8 for Matenwa" will be a 2 day skate benefit where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Matenwa Community Learning Center. will be taking place at 11 Rhoades St. Suite 15 (Between Blue Hill Ave. and Frontenac Street) in Mattapan, 02124.
