BOSTON SHINES IS COMING TO DORCHESTER ON MAY 2ND, 2015!

 

Be a part of the community-wide clean up! Below are all of the opportunities for you to join the Boston Shines event and help make Dorchester shine!

 

Codman Square: Boston Shines will be happening in several different locations of Codman Square!

  • 9:00AM- Codman Square Great Hall, 6 Norfolk St (MyDorchester)
  • 9:00AM- Loesch Family Park, Wainwright Street (Codman Square Neighborhood Council)
  • 9:00AM- Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation, 587 Washington Street (CSNDC)

Bowdoin-Geneva:

  • 9:00AM- Corner of Richfield and Puritan (Bowdoin-Geneva Residents Association)
  • 10:00AM- St. Peter’s Teen Center, 278 Bowdoin Street 

Fields Corner:

  •  9:00AM- Toohig Park, 40 Gibson Street
  • 9:00AM- Ronan Park flag pole, Adams Street (Friends of Ronan Park)

Four Corners:

  • 8:00AM- 367 Washington Street (Greater Four Corners Action Coalition)

 

Uphams Corner:

Fields Corner Neighborhood Cleanup | May 3

On Saturday, May 3 join Boston Shines for a Fields Corner neighborhood clean up. This event is for Boston’s annual Spring Clean up and will take place from 9-11:30 am. Those that wish to volunteer should meet at 9:00 am at ADSL’s Field House on Town Field Park, 1565 Dorchester Avenue or at the Vietnamese American Community Center located at 42 Charles Street. After the cleanup be sure to join Boston Shines at 11:30 for a cookout. Help get the the Fields Corner neighborhood ready for spring! To register, or for more information call 617-822-3717 x10. Boston Shines Event | May 3

On Saturday, May 3 join the members of the Bowdoin Geneva neighborhood and business district to clean the area and welcome spring. This event will take place at the Family Nurturing Center at 200 Bowdoin Street from 9 am until Noon.

Some of the tasks that will need to be completed include mulching, planting flowers, collecting trash, and sweeping sidewalks. Volunteers can drop by any time between 9 am and 12 pm and help out as long as they would like. All volunteers are welcomed to join in afterwards as the Catholic Charities Teen Center hosts a cookout for participants at 278 Bowdoin Street from 12-5 pm. McCormack Civic Meeting | April 17 2012

McCormack Civic Association met at its usual location, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish Hall on April 17 at 7:00 pm. The meeting began with police reports from officers George Billotte and Mayfield Holliday of C6, as well as Officer Keaney of C11. John McColgan, Chair of Edward Everett Square Residents Committee, presented an update on last Wednesday's meeting. The meeting centered on concerns of crime in the square. Boston Shines in the Polish Triangle will be April 28th. To participate, meet at 9:00 am at Sharon's Park. Concentration areas will include Sharon's Park, Paul's Triangle, Dorchester Ave. and Boston Street. >> Read More

Friends of Ronan Park Monthly Meeting | April 3

This month's Friends of Ronan Park meeting was held at the Bowdoin Street Health Center. About 10 people were in attendance. The meeting began with a report from C-11's Safe Streets Team. Planning for Boston Shines was also discussed. The group will be in contact with the city to decide what materials they will need for the event. The group held an iPod Shuffle raffle last year, and the raffle was successful. The family festival is scheduled for Friday, June 22.

Columbia-Savin Hill Meeting | April 2

The April 2nd Columbia-Savin Hill Civic Association meeting was held at Cristo Rey School on Savin Hill Ave, located very close to the Savin Hill T-station. The meeting had a large attendance of around 40 people. The meeting began with safety reports from Officer Keaney,. Philip DiSalvio, the dean of UMass Boston's University College spoke about the school's programs. UMass Boston has become a model for urban public education. He highlighted the programs available at University College. The program is for adults who may not have finished their bachelor's degree go back to school. >> Read More

Please join Mayor Thomas M. Menino for Boston Shines 2012, 10th annual two-day citywide neighborhood clean-up event, part of the Mayor’s year-round program, Boston Shines 365. Lots of clean-up events are happening throughout Dorchester, listed below are those we've heard of so far, we'll add others so please check back!
