Mission:

Brandy Cruthird established Body By Brandy 4 Kidz in 2005. Spurred by alarming reports of childhood obesity and the related health risks, she decided to research these disturbing statistics, and, after working with several hospitals, found it apparent that change was necessary. Locally, 35% of children under the age of six are overweight or obese - 15% more than the national average. Believing that these numbers were simply unacceptable for our community to ignore, Brandy developed the Fitness in the City and Fit Kidz programs. We believe that the only way to change these statistics is to encourage our children to exercise and maintain a balanced diet. As a result of this vision, every day fitness programming is offered at the gym to those in need.

The Jubilee House is a 23-room mansion located in Dorchester's Codman Square, at the heart of Boston's most diverse community. Jubilee House is designed as an intentional living community, fostering Christian growth and personal transformation through everyday involvement in the urban environment.

What We Do:

The Salvation Army Jubilee House is a community based ministry on various levels. It is a church with Sunday worship services and Bible studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its position within the Salvation Army also involves it in many seasonal assistance and outreach programs: i.e. Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, a wide variety of summer enrichment programs for children and teens. More recently we have been involved in serving the evacuees of the Katrina disaster.

Why Jubilee House?

The name “Jubilee House” is derived from the Biblical concept…the Year of Jubilee. This festival was prescribed by God in the book of Leviticus. Celebrated every fifty years, it was to be a year of rejoicing when every debt was cancelled, every slave set free, every prison opened and every lost heritage restored. Our credo quoted from the prophet Isaiah ( in Isaiah 61:1-4) speaks of one to come who would bring about a more universal Jubilee. It is our mission to let those of our community know that there is hope, joy, victory, freedom, and deliverance in Jesus Christ, our Jubilee!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston serve more than 14,000 children and teens, ages 6 to 18, in our Clubs, and through our programs and partnerships.

Our approach focuses on six core initiatives: Arts; Education; Leadership; Life Skills; Sports, Fitness and Recreation; and Technology. During the summer, many of our Clubs run summer camp programs for children and leadership programs for teens.

Our growing service network includes Clubs, Camp Harbor View, and a presence in police stations across the city:

Our 10 Clubs in Boston and Chelsea reflect the communities in which they are located: Charlestown (Charlestown Club), Chelsea (Jordan Club), Dorchester (Blue Hill Club and the Franklin Hill Club at the Franklin Hill Housing Development), Roslindale (the Club at the Charles Sumner Elementary School) Roxbury (Yawkey Club and the Club at the Dearborn Middle School), South Boston (South Boston Club and the Club at the Condon Elementary School) and Mattapan (the Club at the Mattahunt Elementary School).

Our Youth Service Providers Network (YSPN) places licensed clinical social workers at police stations to provide prevention and intervention services and referrals to the city’s high-risk youth and their families. Since 1996, our YSPN social workers have been developing relationships with youth who are at risk for arrest, as well as those who are already part of the Juvenile Justice system, to help young people develop more trusting relationships and offer them choices.

BGCB operates Camp Harbor View, located on Long Island in Boston Harbor. The Camp was created in 2007 by the Camp Harbor View Foundation to provide a fun and safe environment where youth could challenge themselves, make new friends and experience a world beyond their neighborhoods, where violence has been on the rise. Programming focuses on four areas: sports & fitness, the arts, leadership development and environmental education. In 2008, the day camp hosted approximately 500 boys and girls, ages 11 to 14, from across Boston. Each group of campers attended the camp for one four-week session.
