-JobNet provides career assessment and counseling, job readiness activities and job search and placement services. A multilingual staff works with automated job banks to create career opportunities for job seekers on all rungs of the career ladder. -Downtown Adult Literacy Program tutors adults from 18yrs and older one-on-one on basic reading skills and GED preparation. Students also learn basic computer skills, enjoy field trips and guest lectures, and take part in Boston's annual Adult Education and Literacy Week. -Young Parents Program serves 16-to-21-year-old parents and expectant parents. Vietnamese Family Health: The Dorchester House Multi-Service Center launched Viet Family Health in April 2011. The website, "designed as a learning tool to help health care and human services providers better serve Vietnamese families with young children," is split into three sections - Nutrition, Family Well-Being, and History and Culture - and covers Vietnamese beliefs, social structure and food through video, text descriptions, photographs, posters and other means. Viet Family Health is an English language website but contains bilingual resources and links to expanded materials. While educating health professionals on pertinent concerns and appropriate methods for treatment of Vietnamese patients, it additionally provides them the cultural capital to comprehend Vietnamese residents as friends and neighbors.

Mission:

Countdown to Kindergarten engages families, educators and the community in a citywide effort to enhance early learning opportunities and to support the transition into kindergarten. Mayor Menino, the Boston School Committee and Superintendent Johnson partner with 28 local organizations to implement a school readiness campaign that helps families participate actively in their children's education right from the start, understand the value of kindergarten, and learn how to choose schools and then register in the Boston Public Schools (BPS). In Boston, our work has promoted teacher collaboration on school readiness issues; doubled the percent of families visiting schools to make informed registration decisions; and increased the percentage of children who enter BPS at kindergarten rather than first grade. It has also resulted in more schools being ready to engage families.

Families should start preparing for Kindergarten (K1 for 4 year old and K2 for 5 year old) a full year in advance of their start date, which is the September before their child turns 4 or 5. For a few families, it may start sooner. Boston Public Schools (BPS) has a number of a very limited number of seats for K0 programs for children who are 3 by September 1. There are 75 Early Learning Centers, Elementary and K-8 schools in the City of Boston. Families can choose from a number of schools that are located in their ZONE.

Attend a Countdown to Kindergarten Information Session for answers to all your questions about BPS schools, the registration process and more. Starting in November, Information Sessions provide tips on the transition and kindergarten selection/enrollment process, along with suggested activities to help families prepare for a successful entry into kindergarten.

Greater Four Corners Action Coalition works to promote neighborhood stabilization in the Four Corners Community of Dorchester, Massachusetts. This is accomplished by adressing the issues of crime and safety, through organizing residents, providing positive opportunities for youth, promoting economic development and collaborating with others. Our priority roles are: Organizer, Service Provider, and Collaborator/Supporter of other efforts.GFCAC is in the forefront of the change in local community organizing. Organizations are collaborating to effect regional planning and create standing policies so as not to have to put out the same fires over and over again. Our current work reflects this new direction. We also aim to address issues of transportation, environmental and economic justice.
