Merle Griff, Ph.D., an internationally known gerontologist, established the first Sarah Adult Day Care Center in Canton, OH, in 1985. Responding to inquiries from around the country, SARAH Adult Day Services, Inc. began actively offering franchises in 2004.

Vietnamese Family Health: The Dorchester House Multi-Service Center launched Viet Family Health in April 2011. The website, "designed as a learning tool to help health care and human services providers better serve Vietnamese families with young children," is split into three sections - Nutrition, Family Well-Being, and History and Culture - and covers Vietnamese beliefs, social structure and food through video, text descriptions, photographs, posters and other means. Viet Family Health is an English language website but contains bilingual resources and links to expanded materials. While educating health professionals on pertinent concerns and appropriate methods for treatment of Vietnamese patients, it additionally provides them the cultural capital to comprehend Vietnamese residents as friends and neighbors.

Members are well supervised while in the program areas, but may come and go as they please. The membership fee for all ages is just $5.00 per year, or $10.00 per year for immediate family members registering at the same time. All members must furnish proof of age when signing up.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester offer club members the chance to participate in programs that foster the intellectual, artistic and athletic interests of its members. Each program is age appropriate, supervised, structured and most importantly - designed to accommodate the wide variety of learning styles, social skills and intellectual abilities that our children bring to the Club each and every day. Members are grouped according to age and interests with activities falling into the following categories:

Triple Play – A comprehensive wellness program that weaves physical fitness, nutrition, stress reduction, healthy lifestyle choices together by drawing upon the 200+ programs that take place at the Club

The Arts – Painting & drawing, sculpture, photography and digital design

Music - Comprehensive music program including instruments, voice, and dance lessons. Partnership with Berklee College of Music

Mission: 

The program addresses the unique needs of high-risk urban youth and their families by placing licensed clinical social workers in district police stations throughout the city. YSPN social workers receive referrals from police officers, incident reports, Boston Cares and walk-ins. YSPN services include intake/assessment, crisis intervention, advocacy, referral, clinical case management and ongoing individual and family therapy. Additionally, when there is an incidence of community violence, YSPN provides critical incident trauma services to individuals, groups, and the community. Since its inception in 1996, YSPN has served more than 8,000 youth (80% between the ages of 13-21) and families from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.

The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities and services to the culturally diverse families in the Dorchester neighborhood.
