BOXTOPIA | June 7

The Department of Play would like to invite you to join us for BOXTOPIA in Codman Square! They'll be building ideas for Boston in 2130 out of hundreds of cardboard boxes! They've had a few workshops in the last few weeks to discover several key themes, and will continue imagining as we construct.  There will be food, music, and a visit from a time traveling Minister of Play from 2130! Please help us spread the word to make this a big, collaboratively built city.  

The following Monday, June 8th, the Minister of Play will be riding the Fairmount train, engaging riders in talking about this future world through a participatory performance. The Minister of Play will be played by actor Vincent Siders. We'll be giving away tickets to the performance during BOXTOPIA on Sunday.

This event has been organized by the Youth Hub which is an initiative that was birth out of the Millennium Ten community planning process. Through surveys and focus groups, hundreds of residents identified the need to increase youth employment in Codman Square and Four Corners as a way to improve health outcomes, prevent violence and crime, and equip youth in this community with the necessary skills to obtain jobs in this competitive market.

The Codman Square Farmers' Market is starting on June 7 every Saturday until October 25 from 10am to 3pm! The market will set up at Codman Square Park (Corner of Washington Street & Talbot Ave). Codman Square Neighborhood Tour | May 16

On May 16, the senior class of Codman Academy will lead a historic walking tour of Codman Square. The tour will start at the Great Hall (6 Norfolk Street) and go from noon to 1:30pm. Free Flu Clinic | December 12

Codman Square Health Center is offering a free public flu clinic to the community on Thursday, December 12 from 1pm to 4pm.

 

The flu clinic is in partnership with the Boston Public Health Commission and is being run in honor of National Influenza Vaccination Week.

Hidden Heroes/Sheroes | November 22

The Hidden Heroes and Sheroes Community Event recognizes individuals in the community who have demonstrated leadership, initiative and commitment to improving the quality of life in their neighborhood. The celebration will be held in the Great Hall of Codman Square (6 Norfolk Street) November 22 from 6-8 p.m.
 
They will be handing out the Neighborhood Leadership Awards, Civic Leadership Awards, the Millennium Award, and the Youth Leadership Award. Help support your neighbors for all their hard work.
 
The event funds two $1,500 scholarships for two high school seniors.
