Codman Square Toy Giveaway Dec. 17

On December 17, Codman Square Health Center will be hosting their annual toy giveaway in the Great Hall! The event will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and include some holiday fun: games, food, drinks, and holiday cheer. To receive a free gift, you must be a patient of Codman Square Health Center. To sign up, visit Codman Square Health Center and place a sign up sheet in a box in pediatric, family medicine, or dental. Groundbreaking @ Codman Square Oct. 26

On October 26, you are invited to join Mayor Menino and members of the Dorchester Community at a groundbreaking ceremony and reception to celebrate the expansion of Codman Square Health Center and Codman Academy! Jiggijac's Tastefest Oct. 22

Jiggijac's, a catering business located near Codman Square (at 66 Brent St. in Dorchester), is hosting Tastefest on Saturday, October 22nd. Join Jiggijac's tasting event for an afternoon of great food, and try some of what they have to offer. The event will be $10 per ticket, two for $15. The event will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Here is a preview of the menu for the night:

Community Meetings: Urban Agr., Sep. 29 and Oct. 4

Fresh Fruits and VeggiesAs part of an ongoing effort to increase access to affordable, fresh food in Boston, the City of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development has solicited proposals from qualified farmers to cultivate on two City properties in Dorchester. Join the DND as these farmers present their proposals.

A proposal for development of 131 Glenway St. will be presented on Thursday, September 29, at 6:00 p.m. This community meeting will take place at the Erie Ellington Community Center, 31 Erie St., Dorchester, MA. A second proposal regarding 23-29 Tucker St. will be presented on Tuesday, October 4, at 6:45 p.m. The second meeting will be heled in the Great Hall at Codman Square, 6 Norfolk St. Dorchester, MA. 5th Annual One Heart Festival, Sep. 10

Lorenz Island Kuisine presents The 5th Annual One Heart Festival in Codman Square, to be held on Saturday, September 10th from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 661 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA. This free, all ages event features live entertainment, food and specialty vendors. The mission of One Heart Festival is to unite Boston’s diverse communities and visitors together for a fun day of live entertainment, food and shopping that all can enjoy. This concert is also a vessel that can be utilized by community organizations to reach out to the families and provide information about the services that are beneficial to community and will contribute to bringing peace to our streets.

Codman Square Farmers' Market Kick Off Event, Jul. 21

Food and fun descend upon Codman Square! Come to Codman Commons (corner of Washington St. & Talbot Ave.) for the Codman Square Farmers' Market Kick Off Event! The kickoff, which begins at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, features food demonstrations; presentations from community members, youth and elected officials; resource tables; entertainment and of course the market itself!

Vendors include Silverbrook Farm a co-op of 6 farms which grows sustainable crops without herbicides or pesticides in Dartmouth, MA; and Iggy's Bread of the World, which bakes old-world, breads fresh, every day, using the organic, natural ingredients.

"The Dish" gets Jamaican: Lorenz Island Kuisine

In the video posted online, Graham discusses his background and then gives a cooking demonstration for Lorenz's signature Jerk Chicken! The Dish also provides Graham's Jerk Chicken recipe so you can try it yourself (note: it probably won't  be quite as delicious; this cook is a professional). Hungry? 3rd Annual Outside Movie Night: Jul. 22, Jul. 29 & Aug. 12

Boston City Councillor Charles C. Yancey, B.O.L.D. Teens, and the Codman Square Neighborhood Council present Codman Square’s third annual Outside Movie Night series this July and August at the Second Church of the Nazarene in Dorchester.

The movies, which will be shown every Friday at 8:00 p.m. at 600 Washington Street in Codman Square, include Wall-E on July 22, Peter Pan on July 29, and Despicable Me on August 12. The Second Church of the Nazarene (44 Moultrie St., Dorchester) provides space on the side of its building for the movie’s projection and for community members to sit on the grass.
