3D Art Class for Youth | March 9

The Eliot School’s 3D arts program teaches students the process of sketching and making models to clarify their ideas and turn them into 3-dimensional sculptures. Students use a variety of materials such as air-dry clay, paper maché, construction paper, and recycled materials. Projects may include masks and abstract sculpture.

This program will run for 7 weeks and has limited seating.

Swap the Salt | Nov 23

 A Chef from Haley House’s Take Back the Kitchen program leads an interactive demonstration to show how to get more flavor with less salt. This program is appropriate for all ages.

The Swap the Salt campaign was launch in 2014 by the Boston Public Health Commission to help combat health inequalities in Black and Latino communities.

Dried Flower Wreath Workshop | June 12

Open Mic Night at Upham's Corner Library | April 17

Does the muse of poetry motivate or inspire you? Uphams Corner Branch of the Boston Public Library will host a poetry event on Thursday, April 17 beginning at 5:30 pm. This event will take place at Uphams Corner Library located at 500 Columbia Road in Dorchester. Participants will have the opportunity to show off their short poetry cool quips and sizzling sentences at the open mic night. All ages are welcome and poems in different languages are highly encouraged. Clean language only. All styles welcome. Each poet will get a maximum of three minutes.

The event is limited to 25 participants, preregistration is required, sign up with Elise at the front desk or with Emily in the children’s room. Interested participants may also call 617-265-0139 to hold their spots. 

Family Bingo Night | January 2

Make Your Own Magic | May 16

Upham's Corner Library Branch is inviting all kids ages 7+ to learn how to craft magic tricks to impress and amaze friends and family. In this workshop led by magician Debbie O'Carroll. Healthy and Affordable Foods | May 15

On May 15, the Uphams Corner Branch Library (500 Columbia Road in Dorchester) will host an event on affordable, healthy foods. At 4pm, Molly Shaw, Senior Nutritionist at Upham's Corner Health Center, will explain what healthy foods are and how to buy them on a tight budget. Gardening Workshop | April 4

Did you know that in less than a week you can turn a handful of seeds into a tasty snack? The Uphams Corner Branch is hosting a Gardening Workshop with ReVision Urban Farm on April 4 at 4pm. The workshop will take place at 500 Columbia Road in Dorchester and is open to Children (Ages 6-12) and Teens (Ages 13-18). Don't forget, the cost is free!

Poetry Open Mic Night @ Uphams Corner | Feb. 19

 

Showcase your poetic talent at Uphams Corner Branch Library on Febuary 19. At 4pm, poets will be welcome to perform at this Open Mic event. All ages are welcome and all styles are welcome. Poets may speak/sing in English, Spanish, Cape Verdean or in Vietnamese. No profanity. Each poet gets 3 minutes. You may pre-register by calling 617-265-0139 or signing up at Uphams Corner Branch. Maximum of 25 poets.

How to Live Within Your Means | Dec. 6

On December 6th, the Uphams Corner Branch Library will host a free workshop, "How to Live Within Your Means."

Jackie Cooper of the Boston Home Center will discuss the "do's" and "don'ts" of spending. She'll explain the difference between wants and necessities, so that one can "live within [his/her] means."
