DotWell is a community-based organization, specifically a formalized collaborative effort of its two founding organizations: the Codman Square Health Center (CSHC) and the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center (DHMSC). DotWell was previously known as the Health Services Partnership of Dorchester (HSP).

  • Healthworks at Codman: Located at 450 Washington Street, this women and children's gym uses a variety of practices to ensure community health: sliding-scale memberships, 3-month "prescription" membership for overweight patients of Codman Square Health Center, personal training, nutritionist "interview" at intake, fun classes, special events and activities, friendly and informed staff 
  • Youth Programs
    Community Health Career Internships: Summer health internships for teens. Daily schedule includes one hour of workshop time focused on key life skills areas including civic engagement, job readiness, financial literacy and wellness. Internships can include administrative, clinical, youth programming and recreation placements. 
    Skills for Life: Highly interactive class for teens combining lessons in personal finance with career exploration by making field trips to Harvard Business School, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and other organizations.
  • Dorchester FAMILY School Initiative: The Dorchester FAMILY School Initiative (DFSI) is a multi-organizational partnership that connects three public elementary schools in central Dorchester with health and social service organizations, colleges, other enrichment groups, and parents.

The LIFE Study Seeks Senior Volunteers (ages 70-89)

Seniors! Do you have difficulty walking, getting in and out of a chair, or climbing stairs? If you have some trouble with these or other daily activities and are between the ages of 70 and 89, you may qualify for The LIFE Study at Tufts University.

The goal of The LIFE Study is to find out how older people can make changes in their lives to help them to remain independent members of their communities for a longer period of time. Eligible participants will be randomized into one of two lifestyle interventions consisting of either a structured physical activity program or a health education program.

Camp Wonderland: Low/No-Cost Overnight Summer Camp

For $50 or less, a child (even teen) can enjoy a summer of fun, safe, and healthy recreation outdoors at Camp Wonderland. Located on 110 acres in Sharon on Lake Massapoag, Camp Wonderland offers boating, swimming, ropes course, arts and crafts, music, Native American Lore, sporting, and more. The ACA accredited camp has been in operation since 1926 with over 1,200 campers each summer and an extensively trained staff. Campers range from ages 6-12; one session serves ages 13-17. Boston Parent-Child Home Program: Free Literacy Visits

What is the Boston Parent-Child Home Program?

• It is an innovative, home-based literacy program that promotes a “learning through play” experience for parents and their preschool children.
• It develops a child’s language and literacy skills, as well as their social-emotional development through positive parent-child interactions.
• It prepares children for academic success.
• It helps parents to realize their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
(This program was formerly called the FLASH Program, and was managed by Crittenton Women’s Union.)

Cape Verdean Nurturing Program (Family Nurturing Center)

The Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts invites you to The Cape Verdean Nurturing Program, a 15-week series of classes for parents and children to take together. Parents and children learn them same skills, although in separate groups. A meal is provided for families through each session. Transportation is provided if needed and the program is free of charge. Mission: 

The mission of the Boston REACH Coalition is to promote health equity and eliminate racial and health inequities in Boston. REACH: Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health.

The 200-member coalition has met monthly for ten years. The coalition has earned an outstanding reputation in the local and public health community for its work in raising awareness of racial and ethnic health disparities, educating the public about health issues that affect the Black community in Boston, and for its credible partnerships with community members, policymakers, faith-based leaders, and academic institutions. The coalition includes community members, community groups, health care providers, business and faith leaders, and academic partners.

With new funding as a Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Disparities (CEED), the coalition will expand its scope of work to address cardiovascular disease and public health issues related to men’s health, adolescent wellness, community advocacy, public policy, and environmental health. A strategic plan will ensure that community efforts to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities can be sustained.

PROGRAM Early Head Start – Geneva Avenue
DIRECTOR II – EHS

Responsible for the administration and management of program operations at the Early Head Start in accordance with federal, state, and ABCD regulations, standards, and policies. Ensure high quality services are delivered to the children and their families. Oversee the development and implementation of annual program goals. Collaborate with program staff to ensure full program enrollment. Develop and coordinate the annual local budget preparation process with parents and staff. Responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and documentation of all staff supervision and training activities, as well as parent involvement and training activities. Ensure satisfactory records of recruitment, enrollment, and attendance are current, accurate, and confidentially maintained. Oversee the implementation of outreach and recruitment initiatives. Perform other related duties as required.

The Dorchester Day Parade Committee Annual Essay Contest, Deadline Mar. 12

The Dorchester Day Parade Committee is hosting an annual essay contest open to all Dorchester residents in the 6th through 10th grade or students that attend a Dorchester school. Two (2) prizes will be awarded to the winning essays that are chosen from a panel of local judges. Please fill out the attached registration form below and mail it with your essay to the committee chair. A completed registration form and essay must be postmarked by March 12, 2011 to be considered for a prize.

Renew Boston Residential Program

The Renew Boston Residential Program provides eligible Boston residents with free energy efficiency improvements such as air sealing and insulation upgrades to help conserve energy, save money and lower utility bills. The program is funded with $1.8 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and through existing energy efficiency programs administered by NSTAR and National Grid.
