Apply for the Emerging Playwrights Program!

The Wheelock Family Theatre (WFT) is proud to invite students to their Emerging Playwrights Program!

The EPP is a free program designed to inspire, motivate, and support students in the public high schools of Boston who have an aptitude for writing and a specific interest in developing their playwriting skills.

We are now accepting applications for the fall 2015 semester. We will select up to seven young writers from across the city. Applicants will be notified in May regarding their acceptance.

Between September and December 2015, applicants will participate in the following:

 5 Workshops, including a session with a guest professional playwright (Sunday afternoons)

 2 rehearsals of their final project (weekend days)

 Develop a final, short play

 Work on their final project with professional directors and actors

 An informal staged reading of their work on December 5 th, followed by a more formal reading on the WFT stage on December 13th

The EPP was created in 2012 through the Susan Kosoff Legacy Fund, in support of WFT’s mission to improve the lives of children and families. WFT strives to provide theatre experiences that are accessible on the stage, in the audience, and behind the scenes, for a diverse population. Likewise, in support of and expanding on these beliefs, the EPP aims to provide the opportunity for participants to allow their own creativity to emerge in dramatic writing.

Applications are due on Friday, April 3rd, 2015. (See attached application materials). If you have any questions about the program, or to submit an application through email, please contact EPP Associate Director Stephen Reinstein at sreinstein@wheelock.edu. Thank you for sharing this with your students, and we look forward to reading their work!

Best wishes,

Wheelock Family Theatre
