Food for Thought Cookout: Scoops n Hoops, Jul. 16

Youth In Crisis invites the community to come get your 'hoops and scoops' on Saturday, July 16th. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mildred Community Center the 6th Annual Food For Thought Cookout will feature free food, ice cream, basketball games and trophies on the court. All are welcome to this summer event for the whole family. Stop by for a day of fun filled activities!

Boys & Girls Club 2nd Annual Roof Party, Jun. 16

You are cordially invited to the Boys & Girls Club of Boston's Second Annual Roof Party! Join other young professionals for dancing, hors d’œuvres, silent auction, open bar, a bird’s-eye view of the city skyline, and a dance performance by Boys & Girls Club members from Dorchester. Drop-in Youth Sports Night at Franklin Park

Every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to dusk, come by Franklin Park to play sports with youth in the community. There will be free food, basketball, flag football, kickball, double dutch, tennis, and more! All sports equipment will be provided, just bring your friends and good spirits. All this fun will be happening at the basketball hoops next to White Stadium. Youth groups and youthworkers are welcome! This program is part of Boston R.O.C.K.S, in collaboration with The Boston Foundation - My Summer in the City, Good Sports, Franklin Park Zoo, Franklin Park Tennis Association, MBTA, and Boston Police. This program will run from July 8 - August 12 of 2011.

Looking for an after hours camp for young children and teens? Karate Ka for Peace presents a summer camp program filled with field trips, knowledgable instructors, physical fitness and fun! The summer program is open to all kids ages 11 - 15 and scholarships are available. Chubb Rock presents: "Passing the Mic", Jun. 23

Old-school rappers will be performing alongside talented Dorchester youth, ages 10-15, on June 23 when the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club hosts “Passing the Mic.” 80s and 90s rap stars Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Gizmo and Milk Dee of Audio 2, Joeski Love, and guest host Celtics center Glen “Big Baby” Davis will be headlining the event. Come watch talented locals get the opportunity to collaborate with established rap artists at the historical Strand Theatre in Uphams Corner. The Grove Hall Community Center is hosting its third annual Prom Dress Drive to ensure all young women can attend their prom and look fabulous at the same time! You may keep the dress you find at the drive. PHNA Presents, "State of the State" Meeting, May 25

Pope's Hill Neighborhood Association is hosting a State of the State meeting where neighbors will discuss what to look forward to in the upcoming fiscal year. Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray and State Representative Martin Walsh will join this discussion, which will take place at The Leahy-Holloran Community Center. There will also be donations accepted to the LHCC Care Package Drive, all items collected will be sent to local soldiers serving abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan. Soldiers are in need of sun-screen, aloe, any type of toiletry, undergarments, books, magazines, playing cards and any other light recreational activities.
