Hancock Gallery Featured in Boston Art Magazine, Abstraks

Abstraks is a new Boston based online art magazine, focusing on artists and the art realm in Massachusetts. The magazine is free and will showcase a new issue every month that covers a wide spectrum of artistic mediums. For March 2011's edition our new favorite local gallery Hancock 309 Gallery & Consignment is featured! The writer is a Dorchester native and boasts, "Hancock Gallery stands out as something refreshingly different. There isn't another gallery for miles, and it adds a new and exciting characteristic for the area." Sounds like we aren't the only ones giving local art galleries recognition! Way to go Hancock 309!

Boston Collegiate Charter School Information Session, Feb. 17

Boston Collegiate Charter School is now accepting applications! Come to an information session on February 17 to learn more about the school and apply. Drop In Science - Creations & Constructions, Feb. 22-25

During spring break from classes come hang out at the library and learn how to build all kinds of stuff! Over four days, the Boston Public Libraries are teaching about how things like buildings and bridges are made & giving hands on experience to build four constructions of your very own, right in the library! More than 4,000 students have engaged in hands-on experiments as participants since BPL introduced the Drop-In-Science program in 2008. Youth explore subjects such as electricity and switches, crime chemistry, and the properties of sound. Doll E Daze, Feb. 22

To celebrate Black History Month the Fields Corner Branch Public Library is hosting a Black Doll making workshop on February 22nd. Learn about the history of black dolls and stay to create your own beautiful doll. All materials provided will be provided and the whole event is free. Come celebrate African American history at this fun and educational class, the Doll E Daze. This is an all ages program, but children should be accompanied by an adult. Books & Brownies Sale, Feb. 12

The Friends of the Uphams Corner Branch Library is sponsoring the Books & Brownies Sale as both a fundraiser for the library and as a way to encourage members of the community to join their group and get involved in advocating for the library! All kinds of goodies will be available from cookies and muffins to books and videos!

The Books & Brownies Sale will be held in place of our usual monthly meeting on Saturday, February 12 at 10:30 am – 1:30 pm at the Uphams Corner Branch Library on 500 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA 02125. February Break Kids Craft Camp, Feb. 22-24

Want to pick up a hobby over February Break? The Stitch House is holding a Kids Craft Camp to occupy your time! From February 22nd through February 24th, 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be educational and fun classes for children of all ages. Opening Reception for Elders Creating Art at their own PACE, Feb. 16

Stop by Upham's Corner to see a new exhibit with art from the community! Elders from Upham's Elder Service Plan/Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (UESP/PACE) have created beautiful works of art to be presented at Upham's Corner Branch Library. The exhibit is having an Open Reception on February 16 at 10:30 a.m., but the art will show until March 16. Come and mingle with the artists and enjoy refreshments at the library on Wednesday! Connect For Fun, Mar. 26

Come meet up with those old classmates you lost touch with at this community get together appropriately titled Connect For Fun! Whether you went to Dot High, MRM, English High, BC High, St. Greg's or anywhere else come catch up with long lost friends and enjoy a night to be remembered.

On Saturday, March 26th from 8pm to midnight enjoy live music by TNB (Thenewband) at the IBEW Hall on Freeport Street. Tickets for this event will be sold in advance for $20 and a limited amount will be available at the door for $25. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to a local program under the umbrella matching program through The Rodman Ride for Kids (Team BMC: The SPARK Center)
