Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program, Deadline Jul. 22

Nuestra CDCThe U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has launched the Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program (EHLP). The program is designed to provide mortgage payment relief to eligible homeowners experiencing a drop in income of at least 15 percent, directly resulting from involuntary unemployment or underemployment due to adverse economic conditions and/or a medical emergency. The mortgage relief covers past-due mortgage payments, as well as a portion of the homeowner's mortgage payment for up to 24 months (up to $50,000).

Complete Streets - Dorchester Ave.Please join SMAMS, Fields Corner Main Street, Boston Transportation Dept and Boston Public Health Commission for a "Complete Streets" Neighborhood Walk from Fields Corner to Peabody Square on Tuesday, July 19!  Walk starts at 1500 Dorchester Avenue in Fields Corner at 5:30 p.m. The walk leader will be Mark Fenton, host of the "America's Walking" PBS TV series and one of the country's leading experts on the relationship among walking, street design and public health.

First Parish Church Work Party, Jul. 9

First Parish Church in DorchesterThe First Parish Church in Dorchester Buildings and Grounds Committee is having a Work Party on Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m., with one task. The garage roof at the Manse is leaking and water damage is an ongoing concern. As a temporary solution the committee will be attaching a heavy duty tarp to the roof. Several people are needed to anchor the ends, hand supplies up to the folks who can be about 2-3 steps up on ladders on each side of the garage. It is not steep. This should be a quick project if there are have enough hands. It will stop the deterioration until we have a better solution. With question, call Colleen McKenney (617)223-1714. Save the Harbor/Save the Bay "Best Beaches"Save the Harbor / Save the Bay will host the "Blue is Back" Family Beach Bash and Splash for kids and families on Carson Beach on August 12 and 13, 2011. On Friday, August 12 the celebration will kick off with a day of kids' events and activities on Carson Beach, including a sand castle competition and kite-flying contest. Come have fun in the sun with WIC in Franklin Park and enjoy free raffles, free giveaways and free prizes! "Fun in the Sun" will take place at the Franklin Park Zoo on Friday, August 19, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a free informational day to provide the community with WIC information and other services available to them such as Daycare, Nutrition, Health, Fuel Assistance, Insurance, Housing, Job, Playgroups and Libraries. This event will be held outside of the zoo’s zebra entrance (across from Peabody Circle). Event does not include admission to the zoo.
