Area B-3 Senior Boat Ride and Breakfast, Sep. 13

Senior Boat RideThe annual Area B-3 boat ride and breakfast for seniors will be held on Tuesday, September 13. The event begins with an 8:00 a.m. continental breakfast at the Dorchester Boys and Girls Club (1135 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02125), followed by a bus to the boat tour of Boston Harbor. Tickets are on sale through the B-3 station by calling 617-343-4717 or Myrtle Huggins at 617-429-8531.

Missile Gap Forum & CIA Preview, Sep. 26

Preceding the Kennedy Library Forum on the 50th Anniversary of the Missile Gap Controversy, there will be a special CIA-sponsored conference. In September 1961, President Kennedy was officially notified by the CIA that the United States had surpassed the Soviet Union in missiles, dispelling the notion of Soviet superiority in the arms race. Both conference and forum take place on Monday, September 26: the former from 1:00 to 4:45 p.m., and the latter from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Irish Pastoral Centre Open House, Sep. 8

Irish Pastoral CentreThe Irish Pastoral Centre will host an open house from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, at Fr. Lane Hall at St. Brendan's, 589 Gallivan Blvd., Dorchester. The IPC's new address is 15 Rita Rd., Dorchester, 02124. 

The Irish Pastoral Centre (IPC) strives to assist Irish immigrants in varying capacities and facilitate their positive transition to life in America. Founded in 1987 in response to a large increase in the number of Irish immigrants in the Greater Boston area, the IPC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded in part by the Irish government, as well as by donations from the Irish/Irish American Community. 

UCMS 2011 Annual Meeting, Oct. 25

Please join Upham's Corner Main Street for their 2011 Annual Meeting to learn about recent progress, meet members new and old, and weigh in on important issues! 9/11 Standout, Sep. 11

Honor the fallen by joining your friends and neighbors in an act of solidarity on a day of national mourning. On Sunday, September 11, community members will line up along Gallivan Boulevard in remembrance of 9/11 and in support of America. The line will extend from St. Brendan's, on Gallivan and Rita Rd., to Adams Corner; and the Standout begins at or around 11:00 a.m.

Bring your family, tell your friends, bring your flag. Line the boulevard.

Gideon Ansell at Flat Black, Sep. 9

This Friday, September 9, from 5 to 7 p.m., Flat Black Coffee Company's Ashmont location (1906 Dorchester Ave.) will be hosting an Opening Reception for Gideon Ansell. This work is really dynamic: photography inspired by the rich symbolism and color of Mexican art, in a series based on the Mexican card game, La Lotería. Please join the community in supporting this local artist! The espresso bar will be open, coffee will be abundant, and pastries and other refreshments will be served.

BYEN Urban Environmental Education Workshop Series, Sep. 6, 7, 8

Participate in the BYEN Urban Environmental Education Workshop Series! These workshops are part of "BYEN's Everyday Explorers: Science in After School" program and now available to network members free of charge. Register for individual sessions or attend all. Workshops take place on September 6 from from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m and September 7 and 8 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester, 1135 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA 02125. Sessions are open to after school program staff and environmental educators. Specifically, they address professional development in teaching hands-on science and environmental education in after school settings Pre-registration is required. Boston City Singers Registration, Sep. 14

Registration for The Boston City Singers classes will take place on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at All Saints Ashmont, 209 Ashmont Street, Dorchester, MA. Classes start at 4:00 p.m., after registration. Boston City Singers uses a distinctive curriculum that trains children as young as three years old to learn to sing well. No other major area chorus program starts with children so young! Each singer progresses through several levels: Kodály Singing Class, Neighborhood Training Chorus and Concert Chorus. The singers learn about diverse communities and cultures by performing an extensive repertoire including gospel music, international folk music, opera, jazz, and medieval chant.
