Museum of Science: World of Bridges, Jul. 8

BridgeWhat's the secret to bridges? How do they really work and what's the science behind them? Learn all about it at the "World of Bridges" event at Fields Corner Library (1520 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, 02122)! Two friends, Alicia and Miguel are trying to build a bridge between their house, but they run into a lot of problems. The audience will help them solve their problems in a hands-on engineering activity. Be there at 10:30 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. to join the fun! (Children 6-12 recommended. Registration is required.) 13th Annual Roxbury International Film Festival, Jul. 28 through 31

The Roxbury International Film Festival (RIFF) introduces New England’s largest film festival dedicated to celebrating people of color which begins Thursday, July 28th and runs through Sunday, July 31st. RIFF will screen more than 50 films including features, shorts, documentaries and youth-produced works over the course of four days. Ashmont Cycles Tour de France Night at Dot2Dot Cafe, Jul. 14

DotBikeJoin Ashmont Cycles and Dot Bike on Thursday July 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Dot2Dot cafe to watch a great stage of this year's Tour de France! There will be trivia with prize giveaways. Food available for purchase and free beer while it lasts. Street Bazaar/Block Party, Jul. 16

Mattapan Bike-A-Thon, Aug. 13

BikeThe Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition/Vigorous Youth are planning an exciting opportunity for youth and adults alike to get lots of physical activity! Don't miss this event to view our wonderful community in a bike ride through Mattapan followed by a special biking event for children! The event begins at 9 a.m. at Walker Playground (next to Mildred Avenue Community Center) with basic safety instruction followed by a bike ride through Mattapan. Participants in the community bike ride must be 14 years or older and pre-registration is required.  Loaner bikes will be available and every participant gets a free bike helmet! At 11:30 a.m. there will be biking activities within the park for children also!

Science After Dark: The Stuff You Didn't Learn in School, Jul. 9
