Irish Heritage Festival 16

Irish Heritage Festival is set to return on Columbus Day weekend to Dorchester –  There will be music, dance performances, and other events. Family and children’s activities – from rock climbing to face-painting – as well as other attractions, such as a genealogy tent and visits from Irish wolfhounds and Irish setters, also are on the 2016 schedule.

3rd Annual Global Voices GALA | October 18

Come celebrate the power of music shared by over 500 young people throughout metro Boston! Friday, October 18, 2013 - 6:30-10:00 p.m. at the Venezia Waterfront in Dorchester. Fame Jr. at Restaurant Laura | October 3

Thursday, October 3 at 7:30pm, the Fiddlehead Theatre Company will present an all-youth production of the musical FAME JR., a one-hour “pop-up" dinner theater experience at Restaurant Laura in Dorchester. A cast of multilingual teen singers and dancers from Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods will perform the popular musical as diners enjoy the finest in Cape Verdean cuisine.

Farmers' Market Demo Day | October 4

Join the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), Carney Hospital, and SMAMS at the Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers' Market at: Oct. 4, at 2:30pm for an event that will be both delicious and economical! 
 
There will be demonstrations on how food can be purchased with SNAP and Boston Bounty Bucks at the farmers' markets, and how it can be used to prepare affordable, tasty, and healthy meals.Cedar Grove Gardens will be doing container gardening demonstrations, Red's Best Seafood will demonstrate how to fillet a whole fish, and Chris Douglass's team will teach us how to use the bounty of produce from the farmers' market (and give out some free food samples)! John Polanowicz, Secretary of Health & Human Services, Stacey Monahan, Commissioner of DTA, and other officials will join residents and local businesses (and you!) at this event.

Discount Days in the Square | October 5

SATURDAY FROM 10AM-3PM - Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation (CSNDC) and the local businesses will have for the first time, "Discount Days in the Square" event. Fine Motor Fun | October 8

On Tuesday, October 8th from 5:30pm-6:30pm, Join in for A FUN FILLED Activity that will introduce you to easy activities you can engage your toddler in to help them build their fine motor skills, .at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester 1135 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester. This “Make it and Take It” Session will include a light dinner and is geared towards children ages 16 mos-3 years old.

Country in the City History Tour | October 6

Sunday, October 6th 10:00am, Join a National Olmsted Historic Site ranger for a history tour of Franklin Park. You’ll learn about the early designs and plans of Frederick Law Olmsted, renowned park architect, who built the park in the 1880s. See beautiful views, old stone ruins, and the picturesque home of migrating birds, Scarboro Pond. Meet at the Resting Place (Shattuck Picnic Grove). This event id free and is open to the public.

Fall Forest Festival | October 5

Saturday October 5 between 1pm -4pm come celebrate the season and outdoors with art, nature and recreation at Franklin Park (Glen Road and Circuit Drive Dorchester, 02121). Hike through the Wilderness or let kids, 9 and under ride the bike rodeo between 1-4pm. Bikes for loan or bring your own. You may win a bike from Boston Bikes in the raffle at the close of the event!
 
Take a wild edible tour led by wild foods enthusiast, Russ Cohen from 2:30-4pm. Capture the Franklin Park’s beauty at a watercolor landscapes workshop taught by local artist, Lucilda Dassardo-Cooper from 1-3pm.

Exploring Italian Culture and Its Hidden Treasures | October 5

Saturday, October 5 at between 12pm - 1pm. Irene Roman will present an introduction to Italian culture, highlighting delightful sites and memorable events. This event will take place at the Fields Corner Library 1520 Dorchester Avenue Dorchester, MA 02122. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
