Show Your Kicks | February 1

Saturday, Feb 1. starting at 12:00pm you will be able to BUY/SELL/TRADE any and all of the sneakers you own.

They are located in Boston and inviting everyone who has an interest in the sneaker culture. The venue is easy to reach by car or MBTA, the station is Savin Hill station off the red line which is a 2 minute walk from the venue. General admission is $10 and a table is $100, pay at front door. There are still tables available so if anyone is interested do not hesitate to email Jaimilio11@gmail.com.

Show Your Kicks is not responsible for any lost and stolen items so we recommend that you keep an eye on your belongings at all time.

Epic TV & The Epic Black Experience | February 13

Thursday February 13 at 6pm the Uphams Corner Library in Dorchester would like to invite you to the "Epic TV & The Epic Black Experience"

In honor of Black History Month, John A. De Vito, BPL staff member and author of Epic Television Miniseries, will explain the important role of African Americans in films and in miniseries.

Video clips will be interspersed throughout the lecture. The shows to be discussed include Roots and Separate But Equal.

ParkSCIENCE Children's Festival | February 20

ParkSCIENCE Children's Festival at Franklin Park Golf Course

Thursday, February 20 at 10:00am - 2:00pm, Mayor Martin J. Walsh and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department invite families to the Franklin Park Golf Course Clubhouse for the ParkSCIENCE Children’s Festival. The free Festival will provide fun during February school vacation week with indoor and outdoor activities including science experiments and activities, sledding and snow shoeing, arts, crafts, games, and more. A Story We Share | February 5

Massachusetts Artists Celebrating Black History and Culture has been curated by three Boston Arts Academy students, Stacy Lafume, Rodrick Guevara and Rocky Cotard under the guidance of BAA faculty member Destiny Palmer.

Come out to explore and enjoy the art of Stephen Hamilton, Paul Goodnight, Laurence Pierce, Lucilda Dassardo-Cooper, Adam Bullock, Shaanti Williams and Ekua Holmesan.

The exhibit runs from February 1 through February 28 at the Massachusetts Archives Building, Columbia Point, Dorchester.

The public is invited to attend the exhibit opening on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 6:00 pm. Admission is free to both the exhibit and the museum. The Commonwealth Museum is open Monday - Friday from 9-5 and free parking is available.

Groundhog Day Stroll | February 2

February 2 is Groundhog Day! Join BNAN staff and volunteers, for a winter stroll exploring the new section of the Neponset Greenway trail slated for construction later this spring. Start at Martini Shell Park with the destination of Paul's Bridge and Burma Road, the gateway to the Blue Hills. This short walk will contrast the roadside trail route with the sheltered woods and riverside will find in lovely Fowl Meadow. Members of the Neponset Greenway River Greenway Council will be the guides.

The group will meet at 1:00 p.m. at Martini Shell Park, 1015 Truman Parkway, Hyde Park. The walk will last approximately 1.5 hours. We are planning to hike unless there is severe weather.

Beaches Commission Public Meeting | February 1

On Saturday, February 1, 2014 the Metropolitan Beaches Commission will hold a public meeting at the UMass Boston Campus Center from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

The meeting will discuss and amke way of how to make them vital and find different strategies on how to improve them. If you are able to attend the Feb. 1 meeting, please take a moment to RSVP by email to info@savetheharbor.org, or by phone to 617-451-2860.

Driving and Parking Directions

The public meeting will take place at UMass Boston, 100 Morrissey Boulevard, Dorchester, MA 02125. It will be held in the Campus Center Building in the 3rd floor Ballroom. There will be parking available in the South Parking Lot for $6. Please note that the parking lot is marked as student parking only, but it is ok to park there for the public meeting. UMass Boston is also accessible by public transportation via the MBTA Red Line’s JFK/Umass stop with a 5 minute shuttle ride to campus.

Super Foods and You | January 30

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 3:30pm, the Uphams Corner Library located at 500 Columbia Rd. in Dorchester will host Super Foods and You.

Uphams Corner Health Center's Nutritionist Molly Warner will introduce Super Foods: Simple, inexpensive foods that revitalize the brain and heart. She'll also share a snack made from Super Foods.

Hatha Yoga Class | Ongoing

Hatha Yoga

Every Tue from 6:30 – 7:30pm, there will be a free yoga class taught by integral yoga instructor Alicia Zipp. This class will be held in the Fields Corner Branch Library on 1520 Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester This class is open to the public. Printmaking with the MFA for Teens | January 24

On Friday, January 24, 2014, between the hours of 4 – 5pm, the Codman Square Branch of the Boston Public Library will host the Printmaking with the MFA for Teens at 690 Washington Street in Dorchester.

There are more ways to work with ink on paper than simply with a paintbrush or pen. Led by educators from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, discover the art of printmaking, a process allowing multiple copies of the same image to be created – design, engrave, print and repeat.

This event is free and is open to teens, ages 13-18.

This Out-of-school Time program is sponsored by the Boston Public Library Foundation.
