Jamaica Independence Arts Week

4 days full of Caribbean style fun! Celebrating Jamaica's Fifty Forth Year of independence with games, dance, music, and stories! 

August 3 at 6pm in the CSHC, Black Box: Jamaican Riddles; Duppy and Anancy Stories; Jamaican Proverbs; Folk Lore; Duppy Songs. Come prepared to tell a riddle or story

August 5 at 6pm in CSHC, Great Hall: Folk Songs by JCDS, Anancy Stories, and dialect verse, bring the children to play and learn Jamaican song and ring games.

August 6 at 11am in the CSHC, Great Hall: Jamaica Independence Day Celebration.

August 7 at 5pm at 209 Ashmont St: JDCS, Young Performers, Harmonica Players, Singers, Poetry readers, other musical instrumentalists.

Boston Remembers: From Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Ferguson and Orlando | Aug. 9

Music and Nature—A Beautiful Match | Oct. 16

BNC campers had a wonderful visit with musicians from musiConnects. Musicians played nature-themed works and then engaged in a lively question and answer session with campers.

A special community concert with musiConnects will be held here at the Boston Nature Center. Sponsored by the Boston Cultural Council.

Cost is $5 for members, $7 for nonmembers.

FREE USATF Youth Developmental Track & Field Meet | Aug. 10

The Boston Parks and Recreation is teaming up with USA Track & Field (USATF), Boston United Track & Cross-Country Club, and Youth Enrichment Services to present a free USATF Youth Developmental Meet with events for youth ages 5 to 14.

Events will include 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 mile, turbo javelin, long jump, shotput, and 4x100m relay.  Ribbons will be given for 1st through 6th place.  Madison Park High School is located at 55 Malcom X Blvd. in Roxbury.

When: Aug. 10 from 5:30pm-8pm

Rockin' with Raptors | Sep. 24

Rockin' with Raptors is a free community celebration with fun for all ages! Visitors will hike the trails, listen to music, visit with live raptors from Mass Audubon's Blue Hills Trailside Museum, engage in activities from area educational and cultural organizations, and enjoy a cookout with cake and ice cream.

Go Fly a Kite | Jul. 30

Learn all about flight at the BNC! They will have feather races, explore wingbeat patterns, and make our very own kites! Feel free to bring your own kite for some quality flying time as well.

Representatives from Disney will be there to promote the opening of their new film, Pete’s Dragon. They will have dragon kites to fly and free movie passes to distribute. BNC’s very own bearded dragon, Patty Mayonnaise, will be making a special appearance as well.

Master Planning in Boston with Department of Play

Boston, MA. Art collective Department of Play reimagines master planning through residents’ lived experiences of Boston. From July 29 – August 6, Andrew Square will host the second of three Department of Play events to transform Bostonians into master planners and collaboratively create alternate universes.
