2014 ADSL Baseball and Softball Registration

The All Dorchester Sports League has extended baseball and softball registration. All interested players must have turned 7 by January 1, 2014 or be 5 years old by May 1, 2014. 

Ages/Prices for Baseball

  • (5-7) T-Ball Program $45
  • (8-10) Wood Bat League $55
  • (11-12) City Wide League $55
  • (13-15) Lou Tompkins Travel $65
  • (16-18) Senior Babe Ruth Travel $65

Ages/Prices for Softball

  • (5-7) Clinic (Must be 5 by May 1, 2014)
  • (7-9) Instructional Softball $45
  • (10-12) Junior Division $55
  • (13-16) Bantam Division $60

Participatory Budgeting at The City School | April 3

On Thursday, April 3 from 4:30-6:30 pm The City School will host a participatory budgeting session. This session will take place at The City School located at 614 Columbia Road in Dorchester. This session is to generate ideas on how Boston youth can spend $1 million in capital budget. 

They are looking for creative and beautiful ideas that will support the healthy development of the Boston youth and neighborhoods. Food will be served. To learn more about the Boston Participatory Budget Project, click here

The Mind Matters: Families Make A Difference

Boston Public Schools (BPS) Parent University believes that every BPS family is equipped and empowered to advocate and partner with schools to ensure every child has access to a quality education and achieves excellence in school. Parent University will be hosting workshops that provide educational resources and community support for families with children ages 3-8 to help foster learning at home. This is a 10 session workshop series and participation is free. Families will be able to learn strategies for how to foster your child's development and learning at home and in school. These sessions will include hands on activities, mini lectures and videos. This program was developed by Harvard University and is based on cutting edge brain research on children's social, emotional, and intellectual growth. This year SCI has been able to deepen relationships with previous host sites as well as bring new host sites into the program. We are currently recruiting host sites for Fall 2014. If you think that your organization or know of another organization that would be a good fit, please look at our Host Site Application page. SCI's focus communities include: Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, Boston, Lynn, Woburn, and Fall River. We are also recruiting SCI AmeriCorps members for members for the fall, if you know anyone who might be interested in our positions, please send them this AmeriCorps Member Application Page and encourage them to apply.

Live Music at Dot 2 Dot Cafe

On Friday, March 7 Dot 2 Dot Cafe will host live music from Alexis Paraschos and band. This event will take place at Dot 2 Dot Cafe located at 1739 Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

Alexis Paraschos and band have just released a new CD titled "Something Greater". Tickets are $20 and that includes the cover charge and tapas style plates for the evening. There will also be some special Dot 2 Dot brews being mixed throughout the night. This event is for adults 21 and older. Come enjoy some great live music and meet other Dorchester residents.

Paint & Pour to Wellness

On Saturday, March 8 the Dorchester Arts Collaborative will host Paint & Pour to Wellness. This event will take place at Dorchester Arts Collaborative located at 157A Washington Street in Dorchester from 5-8 pm.

In honor of International Women's Day, join Peace of Food and ZoulJah Art by Q for a unique experience of art therapy instruction, nutrition seminar, and green smoothie samples. Paint & Pour with a healthy twist along with networking and great vibes. This event is a collaboration of two local female entrepreneurs seeking to provide Wellness to the community through art and nutrition. They aim to create an inventive space for like minded women who are innovative and creative. Tickets can be purchased online here. Or at the door for $20.

Boston Alliance for Community Health Speak Up! Event

Boston Alliance for Community Health (BACH) is partnering with 10 organizations to host a 2-day cross neighborhood conversation on community health in North Dorchester. Bowdoin Geneva, Fields Corner, Grove Hall, and Uphams Corner share many of the same community concerns around mental wellness, domestic violence, sexual health, and community violence. These neighborhoods have a wealth of resources, including great health centers, active community organizations, and diverse residents building the community's resiliency.The goal of BACH is to improve the coordination of systems that focuses on the key issues as a way to build community resilience and quality of life. The first day of the conversation will take place on Thursday, March 6th from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at Viet Aid located at 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. At this event attendees will be able to hear current health data presented by Boston Public Health Commission, followed by a resident panel and Q&A. >> Read More

Join the Center for Women and Enterprise and the Resilient Communities Resilient Families for the Business Innovation Challenge Entrepreneur Training & Contest. This event will take place on Tuesday, March 4th until June 27 from 6-9 pm.

Interested participants will have the opportunity to work with other entrepreneurs and experts to build a business plan, find options to finance your business and manage your finances, learn to market yourself and your business to target customers, win money to start your company. Priority will be given to residents of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan.

Action for Health! Science Fair

On Monday, March 3 Harvard NIEHS- Center for Environmental Health in conjunction with Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance and Green Dorchester will host Action for Health! Science Fair. This event will take place at the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance located at 1803 Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester from 6-8 pm.

Some of the topics to be discussed at the event are healthy homes, traffic and diesel exposure, and asthma. There will also be brief presentations, group discussions, and the launch of a new book of health related resources for Dorchester residents. All individuals interested in health are encouraged to attend. The event will include a light supper and take home bottles of green cleaner solution, along with the recipe for all participants. Harvard NIEHS, Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance, and Green Dorchester are putting this together to work to improve the air quality and health in Dorchester using community feedback. >> Read More

Join Dot Out for their 3rd Annual Oscar Fashion Dish Filthy Rich Style event on Sunday, March 2nd. This event will take place at Dbar located at 1236 Dorchester Ave from 6-11 pm. This event is inspired by the "richest" styles and times depicted in the years hottest movies, American Hustle and Wolf of Wall Street.

No Oscar event is complete without Red Carpet Paparazzi by David Pham. The Celebrity Hostess will be Phaedra Phaded.
