Neponset River Trail Extension - Site Walks July 22 & July 26

The Mass. Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) has plans to extend the Neponset Greenway beyond where it now ends at Central Avenue in Milton to Mattapan Square and Blue Hill Avenue, which will open about 7 miles of trail along the Neponset River and connect Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester to the Neponset Valley Parkway in Hyde Park. For more details on this project, please click here.

To allow the public to view the alternative proposed routes, two site walks have been scheduled by DCR on July 22 and 26, 6:30-8:30 PM, and the public comment period has been extended to August 14, 2010. In early fall, DCR will hold a public meeting to present the recommended alternative, so be sure to check our online calendar at for further updates.

Great Neighborhoods Summit, Jun 10

new Ashmont neighborhood takes shapeWe all want vibrant, healthy neighborhoods with a transportation system that gets us where we want to go, a choice of homes we can afford, services we need and recreation we want, and a place where our opinions are heard. There are examples of these “great neighborhoods” in metropolitan Boston — but how can we create more of them? The Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance is bringing together a panel of people who have helped communities create great neighborhoods across the country. Our guests will share their years of experience helping to make great places to live, work and play. This is the Great Neighborhoods Summit on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 9:00 AM to noon. New Location: UMass Boston, Campus Center, 3rd Floor Ballroom, 100 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125 >> Read More

There is a meeting tonight if you are interested.

winter weather tips - remove snow quickly or else!

There are 'new' snow removal regulations [Feb 2007] in place, you don't have 24 hours!

Everyone needs to shovel snow from their sidewalks quickly - within 6 hours of the storm's end for homeowners and tenants, and within 3 hours for commercial properties and apartment buildings, or face fines between $50 and $150 for EACH DAY the sidewalk is not cleared.

Neighborhood access advocates are preparing to report violations...
