Nail Salon Permit Assistance @ Viet-AID March 5

On Monday, March 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Receive one-on-one assistance from Viet-AID and Boston Public Health Commission staff will assist you with your nail salon permit application! Viet-AID is located at 42 Charles Street, Dorchester MA 02122. The event is part of the Safe Nail Salon Project.

You will need to bring:

Salon Use and Occupancy Permit from Boston Inspectional Services Department

Flammable Storage permit from Boston Fire Department

Salon license from Board of Cosmetology

Copies of cosmetology licenses for all persons working in the salon this year

Written description of ventilation system and plan for improving indoor air quality in the salon

A check for your permit fee

Clean Air Fair @ VietAID Feb. 25

Harvard School of Public Health and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences are teaming up to bring you a Clean Air Fair at VietAID! Vietnamese Translation will be provided. At the fair, you will have the opportunity to:

 Test your air flow and chart how well you compare to your community.
 See a digital prediction of what you will look like if you smoke.
 See what a smoker’s lung looks like.
 Talk about steps you can take to help protect your air.
 Take real-time measurements of air pollution particles.

VietAid is located at 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. The event will take place from 10a.m. to 2p.m.

Dinner On The Corner Feb. 3

Celebrate the New Year with Viet-AID at the Vietnamese American Community Association! Final BRA Zoning Update Meeting at Viet-AID Jan. 25

On Wednesday, January 25th at 6:30 p.m. there will be the third and final community meeting of the BRA's Dorchester Avenue zoning update process. Following this meeting, community feedback is invited during a 30 day comment period. The meeting will be held at Viet-AID, 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. Objectives of the zoning update initiative include:

- Providing zoning recommendations for the incorporation of Dorchester Avenue zoning regulations into general Dorchester neighborhood zoning regulations.

- Correct inconsistencies between the current Dorchester Avenue and Dorchester zoning districts.

- Where appropriate, update the zoning along Dorchester Avenue to reflect current and potential future land uses.

Dot Ave Community Meeting Dec. 6

Fields Corner Main Street will hold a community meeting with officials from Boston Transportation Department and the Massachusetts Dept. of Transportation (MassDOT) on Tuesday, December 6th in the evening to discuss the Dorchester Ave project. The meeting will be on December 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. For more information, call Fields Corner Main Streets at 617.474.1432.

Dot Ave Zoning Meeting Dec. 14

On December 14, the BRA will hold a Dot Ave Zoning meeting on December 14th at Viet-AID (Second Floor), at 42 Charles Street, in Dorchester.  The Dot Ave. Zoning public meeting is a review session geared toward the Advisory Group. A subsequent community-wide meeting in January will review all sessions and be geared toward the neighborhood at large. The meeting will be from 6:30 p.m.to 8:00 p.m.

Further meetings are slated to take place:

  • Mid January: Community-wide meeting
  • February: BRA Board public hearing
  • March: Zoning Commission public hearing for final approval

Dot Ave Zoning Meeting Nov. 16

The Dot Ave Zoning Update Advisory Group (AG) will meet: Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Viet-AID, 42 Charles Street in Dorchester. At the meeting, the AG will be discussing:

 

  1. Use tables: review of allowed, conditional and forbidden uses for the transition of the Dorchester Avenue Zoning District into the Dorchester Neighborhood Zoning District
  2. Review of fall 2011 AG meetings
  3. Upcoming meeting schedule and Next steps

Community Health Forum at Dorchester House, Jun. 21

Dorchester House Multi-Service CenterIt's time to talk about Dorchester. Come to the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center (1353 Dorchester Avenue) on Tuesday, June 21 for a discussion of the health issues affecting the neighborhood, with a special focus on obesity, hepatitis and diabetes. The forum, free of charge, will take place from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. A light dinner will be provided. Join the Boston Public Health Commission, Eaton Apothecary and CVS Pharmacy, in partnership with Close to Home, Hospice of Boston and Greater Brockton, Mujeres Unidas en Acción, Viet-AID and the Vietnamese-American Women's League of Massachusetts and vicinities in buildling a safe and healthy Dorchester!
