To create an interracial setting where urban youth can develop a healthy, competitive spirit on and off the tennis court; to teach the value of teamwork as well as individual achievement; to encourage interaction and friendships between people from different backgrounds; to learn to win and lose gracefully; and most importantly, to be winners in life.

How to get involved/application guidelines and procedures:

Sportsmen's Tennis & Enrighment Center is open year-round, with 7 indoor and 7 outdoor courts, a clubhouse with showers, and classrooms for after-school and Saturday youth enrichment programs. Located on 4 acres adjacent to Harambee Park, there is free, off-street parking, easy access by public transportation, and the lowest adult membership rate – just $150 annually – of any comparable tennis club in Boston. Stop in for an assessment, to tour the Club, or to enroll for a clinic, camp or lesson.

Key Programs Offered:

Ready Position: a comprehensive after-school academic enrichment program for children in grades K – 5. With a focus on early literacy and basic math, we strengthen the gateway subjects that allow children to thrive in any academic environment. Ready Position engages high school students as 1:1 tutors with younger students, under the direction of a licensed teacher and special educator.

Math*STARS: a program for students in grades 6 – 9, designed to build high-level math and science skills in urban students, run under a partnership with MathPOWER and Northeastern University. College students are engaged in 1:1 tutoring, under the direction of a MA Promise Fellow.

HEY (High Energy Young) Sister: a free Saturday-only program for girls ages 10 – 17, which helps girls explore health and wellness, financial literacy, social activism, healthy relationships, college and career exploration, and more.
