Mattapan United Stand Against Racism Event | April 25

On Friday, April 25 Mattapan United will host a Stand Against Racism event. This event will take place at the Mattapan Family Service Center located at 531 River Street in Mattapan beginning at 3:30 pm until 6:00 pm. This is an open forum that will include live performances, presentations, great food and more. Racism still exists in our communities and affects youth drastically. This event seeks to bring members of different communities to this open forum to discuss the elimination of racism. Help Mattapan United make sure the youth of Mattapan’s voices are heard.

The Boston Home Center FREE Housing Expo | April 5

On Saturday, April 5 the Boston Home Center will host a Free Housing Expo at the Mildred Ave Community Center located at 5 Mildred Ave in Mattapan. This expo will take place from 10 am until 2 pm. Some of the workshops will include financial assistance, hiring a contractor, structuring your finances to buy a home, home repair programs, and much more.

Business Innovation Challenge

Join the Center for Women and Enterprise and the Resilient Communities Resilient Families for the Business Innovation Challenge Entrepreneur Training & Contest. This event will take place on Tuesday, March 4th until June 27 from 6-9 pm.

Interested participants will have the opportunity to work with other entrepreneurs and experts to build a business plan, find options to finance your business and manage your finances, learn to market yourself and your business to target customers, win money to start your company. Priority will be given to residents of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan.

Brooke Charter Schools | March 4 Deadline

Brooke Charter Schools are currently accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year.  The Mattapan campus, accepting new K2 and 5th grade students, is temporarily located at 7 Elkins Street in South Boston (transportation is available for students) but will be moving to 150 American Legion Highway, the former Lena Park Community Development Corporation building, in fall of 2014.  Our Roslindale campus, located at 190 Cummins Highway, is accepting applications for K2 students.  The final application deadline is Monday, March 4th, 2013 at 6PM. >> Read More

Compassion Act Heal: Swap & Donate - Jan. 12

Do you have clothes hanging in your closet that you do not wear or use anymore? Do you want to get rid of the old items so that you can be in with the new items for 2013? Ceremony @ Hunt-Almont Park | August 24

On August 24, Mayor Menino will kick off a ceremony at Hunt-Almont Park to begin the renovations. The ceremony will start at 10:30am. If you support the renovation of parks in Boston, come support the renovations of Hunt-Almont Park! (Hunt-Almont Park is located at 40 Almont Street, Mattapan MA.)

Mattapan United Give Back Meeting | June 27

Join Mattapan United to kick-off a Summer of Action! Mattapan United is organizing action groups, including: Business development, Community fabric, Jobs, Safety, Open, clean spaces, Housing, and Health.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 27th from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Young Achievers School, 20 Outlook Road, Mattapan, MA 02126

 

FFor the past year, Mattapan United has engaged in a neighborhood feedback process and has gathered information on what residents and stakeholders envision for an improved Mattapan community. In this meeting, you will learn about these recommendations and have the opportunity to join an action group to bring about these changes. Mattapan Healthy Food and Fitness Tour | June 23

On Saturday June 23, Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition is hosting a Food & Fitness Tour. Meet in the parking lot of the church of the Holy Spirit, located at 525 River Street near Mattapan Square, at 4:15. Join the Food & Fitness Coalition and experience community efforts to improve the food and fitness environment in Mattapan. Walk the future Neponset Greenway, and view the proposed Neponset Greenway with Guides from the Neponset Greenway Council. MS: The Multicultural Connection | June 9

The Jubilee Christian Church, located at 1500 Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan will  be hosting an event called: "MS: The Multicultural Connection. Connect to Research, Connect to Others, Connect to Stay Well!" Explore how MS affects YOU through presentations and round table discussions. Meet others from your community and empower yourself to live well with MS every day. Free! Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition | May 8 2012

The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition held its monthly meeting on May 8 at the Mildred Avenue Community Center. The meeting began with a welcome and introductions. Everyone shared their name and favorite place in Mattapan.Theresa Jordan and Sonia Carter discussed plans for Mattapan Moving for Life. A description of the Fairmount Greenway Project and update on the Neponset Greenway from Eva Joseph and Vivien Morris. There was also discussion of activities and outlets for youth in Mattapan, with updates for Vigorous Youth and The Mattapan Patriots Flag Football team. The Healthy on the Block Corner Store Initiative, Farmers Market, and Mobile Market Project were discussed. >> Read More
