Neponset River Trail Public Meeting Aug. 30

On Tuesday, August 30, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., at the Foley Senior Residences Dining Room, 249 River Street, Mattapan, the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will discuss, and solicit public input on, recommended alternative trail extension between Central Avenue in Milton and Blue Hill Avenue in Boston to link the Lower Neponset River Trail to the Neponset Esplanade.

Please help pass along this meeting notice (see flyer attached below) especially to those who live in Mattapan and Milton, to help generate a sizeable community presence at this meeting that can provide feedback about this critical missing piece. Please join ecologist Russ Hopping of The Trustees of Reservations for a free workshop on how to attract native pollinators to your vegetable and ornamental gardens. RDM Transit Study at Mattapan/Ashmont, Jul. 26 and 27

RDM What would you do to improce the MBTA in Roxbury, Dorchester, or Mattapan? Now's your chance to make a change! Give suggestions for short, medium or long-term projects. Neponset Greenway Walk, Jul. 21

Mattapan Food and Fitness CoalitionAdvocates of the Neponset Greenway, including the Boston Natural Areas Network and the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, are planning a five-mile walk on July 21. Proceeding from Mattapan Square along River Street and the Greenway Trail, the group walk is part of advocates' educational efforts about the Greenway project. The walk is scheduled to start on Thurs., July 21, at 6 p.m. at Mattapan Square MBTA station.

What’s on Brookwood Farm? Aug. 24

Brookwood Farm has historically been both farmland and wetland. What are the special native plants of this part of the Reservation and what threatens them? Join a naturalist on Wednesday, August 24, at 6:00 p.m. to explore this historically and ecologically significant portion of the Reservation. Meet at Brookwood Farm, 11 Blue Hill River Rd., Canton, MA.

Performance Series at Ryan Playground, Jul. 28

Community Meeting on Blue Hill Ave. Station/Fairmount, Jun. 1

The MBTA will hold a public meeting to discuss the Fairmount Line Blue Hill Avenue Station on Wednesday, June 1, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mattapan Branch Library (1350 Bleu Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126). The MBTA project team will discuss the station location & design with alternative analysis. Design will be completed by the end of 2011 and construction is projected to begin May 2012.

Fundraiser for Tornado Relief, May 21

Boston Mothers CarePlease join Boston Mothers Care on May 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 234 Kennebec Street, Mattapan, MA 02126 for a dinner fundraiser and supply drive. BMC members will be driving donations to tornado victims in Alabama during Memorial Day Weekend. Your donation is tax deductible and even $5 to $10 makes a huge difference. Donations of water, toothpaste/toothbrushes, diapers, toiletries, canned foods and other non-perishable iterms are greatly appreciated. Boston Mothers Care will provide dinner and drinks, networking and a relaxing evening with others who believe in service and action. BMC is mission driven and composed of volunteers.
