Music @ the Ashmont Farmers' Market, Sept 30

Enjoy music at the September 30, 2011 Ashmont / Peabody Square Farmers Market!

The Pan United Steel Drum Orchestra will provide the musical theme for the farmers' market this Friday, performing starting at 5 p.m.

Market vendors include Spring Brook Farm of Littleton, Langwater Farm of North Easton, and Dorchester's own Cedar Grove Gardens and Dot-2-Dot Cafe! Representatives from the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition (DEHC) will also be there as usual, with interesting information and freebies.

The market runs every Friday, 3 - 7 PM through October 14 on the Ashmont Station Plaza. It accepts SNAP/Food Stamp benefits, WIC and Senior Nutrition coupons. SNAP shoppers can get up to $20 worth of veggies at half price through the Boston Bounty Bucks program!

Opera at the Open Market, Sep. 16

Boston Opera Collaborative presents "Opera goes to Market," a concert series celebrating the union of food and music. During September at local farmers' markets explore how opera is a part of everyday life. These concerts were made possible through funding from the Free for All Concert Fund. They will be held:

Thursday, September 15, from noon to 3 p.m., at Boston Public Market, South Station.
Friday, September 16, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Ashmont/Peabody Market in Dorchester.
Sunday, September 18, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Harvard Square Market in Cambridge.

In addition to fresh veggies, plants, honey, bread & pastries, the market will have: Folk & Bluegrass music by The Pork Choppers (3 to 5 p.m.); bike inspections by the Boston Cyclists' Union, with discount coupons for purchases at Ashmont Cycles; and healthy recipes and samples from UMass Extension Service.

Codman Square Farmers' Market Kick Off Event, Jul. 21

Food and fun descend upon Codman Square! Come to Codman Commons (corner of Washington St. & Talbot Ave.) for the Codman Square Farmers' Market Kick Off Event! The kickoff, which begins at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, features food demonstrations; presentations from community members, youth and elected officials; resource tables; entertainment and of course the market itself!

Vendors include Silverbrook Farm a co-op of 6 farms which grows sustainable crops without herbicides or pesticides in Dartmouth, MA; and Iggy's Bread of the World, which bakes old-world, breads fresh, every day, using the organic, natural ingredients.

Dorchester House Farmers' Market Opens, Jun. 28

SOS FarmDorchester House Multi-Service Center is proud to welcome two local agricultural groups with social missions back to its weekly farmers market in Fields Corner. The market will provide locally grown produce and information on nutrition, food stamps, WIC and other community organizations to the Dorchester Community. The Dorchester House Farmers Market will be held on Ellet Street next to the health center on Dorchester Avenue. Come to the Food in the 'Hood meeting June 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bowdoin Street Health Center, 230 Bowdoin Street. Ashmont Farmer's Market Opens, Jul. 8

Ashmont Farmer's MarketThe Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers’ Market returns for its third season on Friday, July 8, at the Ashmont Station Plaza. The island sounds of Pan United Steel Orchestra, a Boston-based, "progressive" group of drummers, will welcome the market, which runs every Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. through mid-October and features the fresh and local produce of Massachusetts farmers. Spring Brook Farm from Littleton, MA and Langwater Farm from North Easton, MA, are both returning from last year. Cedar Grove Gardens will once again offer fresh flowers, plants, and other gardening items; Dot2Dot Café will have a variety of baked goods; and members of the Dorchester Arts Collaborative will participate on a rotating schedule. Greater Grove Hall Main StreetsThe Grove Hall Farmers' Market is looking for dedicated farmers interested in offering fresh produce to Roxbury and North Dorchester residents and consumers. The Market will be located adjacent to the Flames Restaurant located at 469 Blue Hill Avenue. The space is easily accessible by public transportion (bus routes: 14, 19, 23, 28, 45) and offers a free public parking lot behind the market. Unique crafts are sought in addition to fruits, vegetables, etc. Grove Hall Farmers' Market will run from Tuesdays July 12th to October 25th, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Seasonal Cost for vendors is $50.
