Dorchester Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert, Apr. 10

Join the Dorchester Symphony Orchestra as it presents its Spring Concert, Sunday, April 10th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont (209 Ashmont Street). The orchestra, conducted by Dorchester resident William Shoucair, will be joined by violinist Annie Chen from the New England Conservatory as she plays the Mozart Violin Concerto #5 in A Major, one of the most well know and best loved pieces by Mozart. Also on the program is the Marriage of Figaro Overture by Mozart and Symphony #101 (The Clock) by Haydn. Come celebrate spring with your own, hometown orchestra!

"Behind the Music" of Boston City Singers, Mar. 23

Boston City Singers will host "Behind the Music - Inspiring Young Voices" on Wednesday, March 23 from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. for afternoon tea. This event is free of charge and not a fundraiser-rather, it's an opportunity to showcase all of the Boston City Singers' achievements, what the group is today and how these kids make a difference in our neighborhoods. Art Show at Cedar Grove Gardens, Reception Mar. 24

The staff at Cedar Grove Gardens have green thumbs and a knack for creative design. Join Cedar Grove in celebrating the collaborative talents of several local artists - all of whom are also employees! Original works of art will be on display depicting still life, scenes of Boston, abstract glass and more.

Mission: 

Connecting youth with music and opportunity: The Dorchester Music Clubhouse, located at the Paul R. McLaughlin Youth Center, is a place where music, fun, education, and expression come together. Come in and learn to play an instrument, practice what you know, start a band, record or write a song, meet your friends, or make new ones. See a performance, talk about your favorite music, hear new music, or take part in a workshop. Don’t forget about performances and field trips.

 

The Dorchester Music Clubhouse is also a gateway into the amazing City Music Program, sponsored by Berklee College of Music for Middle School and High School students to prepare for a Berklee Education!

DAC 4th Fridays: Chuck Sullivan and Vincent Crotty, Mar. 25

All are welcome to the DAC 4th Fridays Potluck on March 25th! Wine and soft drinks provided - just bring yourself, your appetite, and something for the table. If you'd like to contribute to the chili table, bring that along too--or maybe some garnishes (guacamole, tomatoes, sour cream, shredded cheese). Everyone who tries the chili gets to vote on which should be DAC's official entry in the Dorchester Chili Cook-off.

Mike Ritter of Dorchester’s Ashmont Hill presents his work at Ashmont Grill this month. The exhibit displays an assortment of framed photographs from his varied portfolio of portraiture, travel, Boston and architecture. A reception with the artist will take place Wednesday, March 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. Free snacks, cash bar, walk-ins welcome. Small, matted works will be available for sale.

Sunday at Three Concert Series: Russell Hoffman Jazz Trio, Mar. 27

Sunday at Three is proud to present its last concert of the season featuring the Russell Hoffmann Jazz Trio (Russell Hoffmann, piano; Ron Mahdi, bass; Ron Savage, drums) on Sunday, March 27, at 3:00 PM. This Berklee faculty trio has performed on three continents and collaborated with distinguished artists like Marian McPartland, Kevin Eubanks and Bobbie McFerrin among many, many others. Their concert will include selection from the American Song Book as well as original compositions. A reception and meet and greet with the artist will conclude the afternoon. Concert is free (though donations are accepted). "Fine Art" - Patrick Ryan Photography at Flat Black, Mar. 18

Flat Black Coffee Company will have their second art opening this Friday, March 18th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carruth @ Ashmont Café, 1906 Dorchester Ave. Fine Art by Patrick Ryan is a breathtaking collection of long exposure photography. There are landscapes and scenes from London, unique views of the night sky. Traditionally framed prints will be featured alongside photos printed on stretched canvas.
