Boston Dance Company's Nutcracker @ the Strand, Dec. 7

2011 marks the 19th Anniversary Season of the Boston Dance Company's annual production of "Nutcracker". The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" written by E.T.A. Hoffman; the story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. The performance will be held on December 7th at 10:00 a.m. The Strand Theatre is located at 543 Columbia Road in Dorchester. Dorchester Historical Society Holiday Open House Dec. 11

Dorchester Historical Society will be holding their Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome! The Open House is held at the Dorchester Historical Society's Headquarters at 195 Boston Street. The 1806 William Clapp House is decorated in traditional fashion, and all exhibits are on view. Movies @ Adams Street Branch in December and January

A Christmas Carol (The Passion of Scrooge) Dec. 5

The Strand Theatre will be hosting a dramatic presentation of A Christmas Carol, an entertaining musical setting of Charles Dickens’ classic story.  This vibrant and amusing performance brings Dickens’ characters to life in a suspenseful and exciting journey from past to future. A Christmas Carol captures the spirit of the season while introducing classical music and a classic novel to audiences of all ages. Admission to the event is free. Homecoming: A Roxbury Retrospective, Nov. 19

Homecoming: A Roxbury Retrospective

Hibernian Hall presents a retrospective photography exhibition featuring the work of Roxbury native Derek Lumpkins. View the scenes and people around the neighborhood who have inspired his work since moving home in 2004. The artist will be present to discuss the work. Derek Lumpkins is the Executive Director of Discover Roxbury.

An opening reception will take place Saturday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Per Friends of Hibernian Hall, you can expect "munchies and good conversation." While you're there,  converse about the art of photography and visit with your neighbors.

The exhibit is on display from November 14, 2011 to January 29, 2012, at Hibernian Hall, 184 Dudley Street, 3rd Floor, Roxbury, MA. If you miss the reception, call 617-849-6322 to arrange a viewing during office hours, Monday through Friday.

Macy's Enchanted Trolley Tour and Tree Lighting Dec. 2

Macy's Enchanted Trolley Tours will be touring Boston on December 2, 3, and 4th this year. On December 2nd, the route will include sites in Dorchester and Mattapan! The ride occurs to observe Holiday Cheer in 15 neighborhoods of Boston. Here is the schedule for Friday, December 2nd:

"Pay it Forward" Fashion & Talent Showcase, Nov. 18

On Friday, November 18th, Stajez Dance Company & Wise Men Marketing and Promotions will Present “Pay It Forward,” a 1st annual Fashion & Talent Show Case. "Pay it Forward" will promote the remarkable power of paying good deeds forward, and remind us all that small acts of kindness can make a big impact. Do You Pay It Forward?

The event will be from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club at 15 Talbot Street in Dorchester. Admission is $10, and will support a great cause.

There will be tables with information about organizations that promote peace, healing and to educate youth & families about upward mobility and education.  The event's main feature will be a fashion show followed by a phenomenal talent showcase. The central theme is “Pay it Forward.” All participants involved have committed themselves to making this event one that is both entertaining as well as productive, and your presence will bring it all together.

If you would like to attend “Pay It Forward” 1st annual Fashion & Talent Show Case as an organization, you can set up a table for your organization. Feel free to bring banners, pamphlets and other items that will make your table attractive and inviting to the large number of people that are expected to attend!
