2011 marks the 19th Anniversary Season of the Boston Dance Company's annual production of "Nutcracker". The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" written by E.T.A. Hoffman; the story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. The performance will be held on December 7th at 10:00 a.m. The Strand Theatre is located at 543 Columbia Road in Dorchester. The Strand Theatre will be hosting a dramatic presentation of A Christmas Carol, an entertaining musical setting of Charles Dickens’ classic story. This vibrant and amusing performance brings Dickens’ characters to life in a suspenseful and exciting journey from past to future. A Christmas Carol captures the spirit of the season while introducing classical music and a classic novel to audiences of all ages. Admission to the event is free. On Saturday, November 12, the Strand Theatre will be hosting "Through Our Eyes," a night of contemporary dance performed by young people. The performance tells a story of life, struggle, pain, joy, and laughter through dance. One Luv Dance Company bridges the classical Art of contemporary dance to a new generation of dancers. The company will perform original works by Joe Gonzales, Aura-Jakiz Ortiz, May-Lisa Chandler, and Linda Thompson. Adult admission is $20.00, youth and senior admission is $10.00, children under age 5 are free! Interested in performing or showing unique art forms during the annual Dorchester Open Studios event? This year's Open Studios 2011 (October 22 and 23) will include not only the largest collection of visual artists in Open Studios history, but also two days of performance art. Dancers, singers, poets, actors, writers, filmmakers, and musicians are all invited to participate. Write the Dorchester Arts Collaborative at info@dac-online.org by September 2 with a brief description of your presentation; include video, website links, etc., to give us an idea of your art. Urban Fresh presents a one time production of Ntozake Shange's epoch-making play, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf." One Night Only! Directed by Leona Pierre and featuring Amie D Wells, Martine Russell, Chantale Sterling, Rosa Mendoza, Nicky Bundle, Ashley Rose, Camille Lafond, Musu-kulla Massaquoi, and Themba Mkhatshwa.
