4th Annual Taste of Dorchester Event April 26

Join the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) to try amazing food from all over Dorchester at the 4th Annual Taste of Dorchester Event!  It will be held from 6-8PM at the IBEW Local 103 located at 256 Freeport Street, with live music from Sleeping Bee.  

Tickets are $35 beforehand, $40 at the door, $20 for seniors and children 6-12, and children under 5 get in for free.  To purchase tickets, please go to tasteofdorchester.org or call 617.822.9100.  

The event is a yearly event to raise money for MAHA's programs which help to increase sustainable homeownership in Dorchester and across Massachusetts. The vibrant local restaurant community has helped to make this event a Dorchester tradition! Try Jamaican, Vietnamese, Cape Verdean, Irish, Indian, Soul Food and American cuisine, a variety of delicious culinary dishes from restaurants across Dorchester. Local ice cream and fair trade coffee will also be served! In 2011, over 400 guests helped to raise $44,000 to support MAHA's efforts! Chili Cookoff, March 25

The 6th Annual Dorchester Chili Cook-Off is happening Sunday, March 25, 3 to 6 p.m., at the IBEW Local 103 Hall, 256 Freeport Street. Civic associations, local merchants, politicians, and other community groups around Dorchester are invited to submit their chili and compete for "Best Chili" Awards. Tickets are $20 per adult and $30 for a family (up to 4 people) at the door. Tickets purchased in advance receive a $5 discount. All proceeds will benefit this year's Dorchester Day Parade! Food in the 'Hood Meeting Feb. 8

The second Food in the 'Hood meeting of 2012 is happening on February 8, at the Bowdoin Street Health Center, 230 Bowdoin Street. Come to the meeting to discuss food possibilities in your Dorchester neighborhood! Do you travel outside of the neighborhood to buy better quality and/or affordable food? Are you interested in helping to improve access to healthy food in the neighborhood through community supported agriculture (CSA), urban agriculture, farmers' markets and healthy corner store initiatives? This meeting is free and open to all - healthy snacks will be provided. Dorchester-Milton Restaurant Week, Jan 15 - 30

Last night: Tonight Jan 30! What began in 2010 as a bright idea aimed at blasting winter-weary residents south-of-Boston out of their homes and into local restaurant seats is now, Dorchester-Milton Restaurant Week, apopular annual tradition.

Three-course dinners for $30.12 at nine cream-of-the-crop restaurants, each located within a few blocks of each other and listed below - plus free parking at all locations. 

2012 Dorchester-Milton Restaurant Week is Sunday through Thursday nights between January 15 and 30.

Give Back @ The Grill Monday Wine Club supports Dorchester Food Co-op in January

ASHMONT GRILL’s innovative Give Back @ The Grill program enters its second year by supporting the Dorchester Community Food Coop throughout the month of January. How ? 

Proceeds of its Monday Night Wine Club will be donated directly to the Food Coop - $5 out of every $38 four-course wine tasting sold on Monday nights during January.

Food in the 'Hood Meeting Dec. 14

On Wednesday, December 14th, Food in the 'Hood Committee will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, December 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bowdoin Street Health Center. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to contribute to the Mayor's Boston CAN Share campaign in which BSHC is participating. This year's drive will help to support food pantries across the city and to support Boston Bounty Bucks, the program that provides low-income families with access to healthy fresh foods by doubling their SNAP benefits at farmers' markets! City Growers Proposal Meeting Nov. 14

The city of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development has solicited proposals from qualified farmers to cultivate on City properties in Dorchester. City Growers will present their proposal for 131 Glenway Street in a public meeting on Monday, November 14, at 6:00 p.m. in the Erie Ellington Community Center.
