Rally for Peace Oct. 27

On Thursday, October 27th, Mothers for Justice and Equality will be hosting their annual Rally for Peace. Mothers for Justice & Equality is a coalition of mothers, fathers, community leaders, and policymakers committed to ending neighborhood violence, supporting victims of homicide, and restoring hope and safety to our streets. Acts of violence have become a normal occurance in our community - help change this by taking part in this event! The annual march will be from Dudley, Jackson, and Ruggles MBTA stations to Reggie Lewis Center at 5:00 p.m. Featured speakers will include mothers, youth, Charles Ogletree, a Professor of Law at Harvard, and Michael Curry, President of the NAACP.

Youth Visions Oct. 19

Youth Visions, an exhibition of original artwork celebrating themes of identity and community, will be happening on October 19th at Hibernian Hall, 184 Dudley Street in Roxbury. The event is a great opportunity to see original artwork created by young people from Roxbury and beyond! Check out multimedia stories created by teens, original furniture art in MPDC's Summer Employment Program, and visual art by children in the Ellis Memorial After-School Program in Madison Park Village.

 

The event is FREE and open to all. Refreshments will be served, and you have the opportunity to meet the artists as well!

To Kill a Mockingbird @ RCC Oct. 20 - 29

Catch a great production of "To Kill a Mockingbird" right in Roxbury! Mainstage Theatre at Roxbury Community college is hosting ten performances from October 20 - 29. The tickets are FREE for RCC students, $5 for other students and $10 for adults. #Roxtweet meetup event Oct. 5

RoxComp Family Fun Day, Aug. 20

Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center, Inc. (RoxComp) will hold a Family Fun Back to School Day on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This Fun Day features raffles, games, giveaways and activities (including moon bounce and face painting). Be a Big Sister in Your Community

For women 20 and older: This one-to-one mentoring program matches girls (ages 7-15) with women who live in or around their community.  Big Sisters spend time with Little Sisters weekly for the first three months and a minimum of twice per month thereafter for at least 12 months.

 

Matches meet on days and times of their choosing and do activities that they both enjoy, such as playing games, watching movies or riding bikes.  They develop a special friendship based on trust and respect as they learn about and from each other! 

 

There are currently 119 girls waiting for a Big Sister in the Dorchester and Roxbury neighborhoods!

The Summer of Cycling continues with the annual Roxbury's Main Streets bike tour on July 13, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Travel to the four corners of Roxbury - Mission Hill, Dudley Square, Grove Hall, and Egleston Square - to meet the people working behind the scenes at Main Streets. Hear about what's happening in each district and get recommendations for places to eat and shop. At the end of the ride, hang out in Egleston Square for a concert performed by Opposite People.
