"Sickle Cellebration" Walk & Health Fair, Sep. 17

Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association

Come walk, talk, eat, dance, learn, laugh and stay healthy! Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association (GBSCDA) will hold the 6th Annual "Sickle Cellebration in the Park" Walk & Health Fair on Saturday, September 17th, 2011. The fair, which takes place in Franklin Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., features peformances, music, food and dance, free health screenings and a "Walk-A-Thon." Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the Walk-a-Thon kicks off at 12 p.m.

Ciclopaseo and Cycling in Quito, Aug. 16

The Ciclopaseo in Quito, Ecuador, a 30km route closed to motorized traffic every week to allow space for cycling, walking, and other forms of transport, averages 40,000 participants each day it is held. Sally Sharrow, who helped out as an intern for Dot Bike this year, got a taste of the bicycle advocacy scene in Quito while studying abroad there last year. She will share her experiences working and riding with the people and organizations involved in making Quito una ciudad cicletera. Franklin Park Tot Lot Opens, Jul. 30

Franklin Park CoalitionThe Tiffany Moore Tot Lot at Franklin Park is opening! The fence is down and a grand opening with the Mayor will take place Saturday, July 30 at 2:30 p.m. (The Lot is located at Seaver St. between Elm Hill Ave. and Humboldt). There opening ceremony will feature ice cream and refreshments, Boston Breakers women's soccer star Kristine Lilly and maybe even Celtics player Ray Allen! Come check out this beautiful Tot Lot, constructed with the aid of a generous playground foundation.

ParkARTS PhotographyCapture Boston's picturesque parks during the 2nd annual summer amateur photography workshop series. Learn tricks and techniques of taking a perfect photograph. Bring your own digital or film camera. Pre-registration is encouraged.
