Please join Dorchester People for Peace  for the second event of the Solidarity Project Series: Muslims in America Share their Experiences. 

In response to anti-Islamic rhetoric and proposed anti-immigrant policies, the refugee crisis in Europe, and increasing ISIS attacks, progressive Muslims will share their views on Islam, Militarism, Islamophobia, and Politics.

First Parish Dorchester Gala Benefit Dinner | May 7

The Gala Dinner in May is First Parish Dorchester's Annual Fundraiser to benefit the Meetinghouse Restoration & Mission of the congregation. Gather in the transformed Parish Hall, enjoying live jazz by local ensemble Muse Stew and a generous and varied buffet by TraNan Catering, both great friends of the congregation after so many years of working together. 

This year's ceremonial program focuses on our theme of "Peace through Education" will include remarks by our Interim Minister, Rev. Tricia Brennan, and the presentation of this year's Meetinghouse Award for Service to the Community to Mark Culliton, CEO of College Bound Dorchester.

Author Talk: Thanhha Lai | May 10

In honor of Asian-Pacific Heritage Month, join Adams Street Branch as children’s author Thanhha Lai discusses her novel Inside Out & Back Again. The novel, which won numerous accolades including the National Book Award and the Newbery Honor Medal, is the story of a young girl in 1975 who, along with her family, leaves her home in Vietnam to start a new life in Alabama.

Open House on Healthy Aging | May 7

Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center’s (HSNHC) upcoming Open House will be held on Saturday May 7, 2016 from 9:30AM -12PM.  Each year HSNHC aims to host several events that empower community members with the necessary tools to manage and improve their personal care and the health of a loved one.  This year’s event will be centered around Healthy Aging with opening remarks from Mayor Marty Walsh.

They will have a panel of experts here to discuss Alzheimer/Dementia, Estate Planning and Nutrition/Exercise. This event is free and all are welcomed!
