Boston Compost Visioning Meeting @ BNC March 29

Boston Nature Center will be hosting a Boston Compost Visioning Meeting on Thursday, March 29, at 3:00 p.m. Come together with others interested in working together to improve and expand composting in the City of Boston. Explore the history of composting in Boston, the status of current Boston leaf composting program, which will involve a viewing or tour of the site. Dot Grows Garden Council Meeting Feb. 7

On February 7 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. attend the first Dot Grows Garden Council meeting of 2012! The February meeting will be held at 305 Talbot Ave. Dorchester (site of the Mt. Washington Bank Community Room located in Codman Square). Local gardeners and garden advocates will share updates on: renovations in Dorchester community gardens, Dorchester Winter Farmers’ Market, Boston Is Growing Gardens, and the ongoing 2012 Master Urban Gardener series, among other items. Mathew Cahill of BNAN will be on hand to announce Grow Boston Greener, a competitive grant program that will provide funding for community tree plantings in the City of Boston. Dot Rox Coop's First Planning Meeting! Jan. 7

The first planning meeting of the DotRox Cooperative Gardening Supply Center has been set! The meeting will be held Saturday, January 7, 1:00 -2:30 p.m. Grove Hall Library, TERI Room at 41 Geneva Avenue in Dorchester. Everyone interested in gardening, health, community-building, and economic development is welcome to help create this community-owned business. At the meeting, the cooperative will be forming the mission of the organization, outlining tasks and talking about working committees.

Snacks and information materials will be provided at the meeting, so please RSVP to Gerald Robbins at 617.241.7717 or to ensure that there are enough of each. Feel free to bring snacks with you! A flyer with more information about the cooperative is attached to this post.

City Growers Proposal Meeting Nov. 14

The city of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development has solicited proposals from qualified farmers to cultivate on City properties in Dorchester. City Growers will present their proposal for 131 Glenway Street in a public meeting on Monday, November 14, at 6:00 p.m. in the Erie Ellington Community Center. Help plan for the arrival for DotRox! Scheduled November info sessions are here. The DotRox Cooperative Garden Center will be a community-based gardening center in Dorchester or Roxbury, located near public transportation. The store will be full-service, offering:

- Plants, seeds, pots, soil, pest-control products,

- Tools, light hardware and other items for gardeners.

- Specialty items for immigrants and other communities that have a hard time finding what they need.

-Workshops on gardening as well as on health and wellness.

-A cooperative business... consumers and workers will be its owners!
