Pedal Poker River Run | October 19

Ride, walk or run along the Neponset River, collecting a full poker hand at stations along the way. The best hands win great prizes. This is a fun, low-key fundraiser that can be played at your own pace. Raise money for one of your favorite organizations: Boston Natural Areas Network, Brookwood Community Farm, Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance and/or Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition.
 
Main route is a 5k along off-street paved paths (registration begins at 1:30pm). A longer (17.5 miles) route through Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park and Milton is available for stronger cyclists (registration begins at 12:30pm).
 
Registration is free, but we are requesting a minimum $25 donation from participants 12 years and older with a goal of $100 raised by each person.

Canoe Excursion on the Neponset | July 27

Enjoy a Saturday afternoon canoe adventure with BNAN! This Neponset River paddle will take place on July 27 at 2pm. Participation is limited to experienced paddlers who can meet at Milton Landing. Arbor Day Tree Planting on the Neponset River Greenway

Neponset Greenway at Butler MBTA Trolley Station, Butler Street, Dorchester

What better way to celebrate Arbor Day than by planting trees! Join Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to plant new trees on the Neponset River Greenway in Dorchester. This event will begin with a tree planting demonstration led by ISA Certified Arborist Mathew Cahill, after which volunteers will break into small groups to plant trees. Gloves, tools, snacks and water provided.

MA Park Serve Day, Neponset River Greenway

Neponset Park, Hilltop Street @ Granite Ave, Dorchester

Service projects to improve MA Department of Conservation and Recreation Parks across the Commonwealth will be happening on Park Serve Day. Join Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) to plant seven new trees at beautiful Neponset Park in Dorchester on the Neponset River. Volunteers will also care for 25 trees planted in the fall of 2012, applying additional mulch, checking stakes and ties, fertilizing and installing gator bags. Annual Spring Neponset Cycle | March 18th

On Sunday, March 18, at 10:00 a.m. join in the Annual Spring Neponset Cycle! The ride will commence at the concession stand at Fort Independence/Castle Island, and Day Blvd. in South Boston. Usher out winter and welcome spring by riding the entire Neponset Greenway, end to end, exploring the present and future paths. A 13-mile flat ride (one way) both on-road and on paths. 1st Annual Leahy Holloran Polar Bear Plunge, Jan. 1

In memory of Brian Leahy, the Leahy Holloran Community Center will be hosting their 1st Annual Polar Bear Plunge! Startoff the New Year with a very chilly swim at the beach. On Sunday, January 1, 2012 (New Year's Day) the plunge will happen at 4:00pm at Tenean Beach, Neponset. $25 admission will include a pancake breakfast, and the first 50 people registered will receive a Polar Bear Plunge Hooded Sweatshirt! Neponset River Trail Meeting Nov. 17

The Department of Conservation and Recreation, Commonwealth of Massachusetts will host a public meeting on the Neponset River Trail on Thursday, November 17, 2011. The meeting will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Foley Senior Residences Dining Room, 249 River Street, Mattapan.

At the meeting, DCR will provide an update on the pathway project that will link the Lower Neponset River Trail to the Neponset Esplanade, including information on a U. S. Department of Transportation TIGER grant application submitted by DCR for federal funding for the project. DCR will also seek additional public input on potential design opportunities.
